gen pulley shims

what a good way around "rust dust" flying out of "shim washers" on to the chrome pulley?
should I:- jus buy new ones or paint them (with what)?
...or can they come chromed(or be chromed)?
:puke rust dust!

Get rid of the chrome and get an original 60's tang pulley.
HEAPS stronger and just grease the shims. This will stop them rusting and spraying dust on it.

Aftermarket air filters. - Sorry not worth it. Unless you are going duals etc K&N is the only alternative but you cant get one for a Pict i dont believe.
I would get the 1600 filter that takes the paper element.
OR
Custom make some thing with a K&N but you are looking at $100 for the filters. They last a life time so unless you and not going to change carbs it is not worth the monet

Just my 2c

Hi robnjo,
I love the colour of Your Beetle...
I just oil all of My Shims, then wipe off excess oil and refit... it seems that they attract rust & rust dust... they did in the 60s and they still do now!!
nothing has changed.... except Us...
don't forget to oil the door hinges and locks while You have the oil can out...
Lee

Everything that moves, should be lubricated...

You could de rust them with a bit of wet n dry first to remove the oxide then wipe with oil and replace.
