just saying hi.
hey guys and gals,
I have just joined these forums, you may or may not know the username from other forums online..
anyway, yes I am a rotorhead by nature, but I am not blind to other cars.
but the main reason I am here is to learn more about VW.s, and particularly beetles, and even more particularly, 1969/1970 models
my girlfriend has just got herself an early 1970 beetle, not a superbug, will post more details in the members rides section.
this is going to be a steep learning curve for me, any comments on general VW stuff would be great, abnd I know Type 1 is beetle, Type 3 is the funky
looking thing.. uhh anything else that could help me out would be great
ADDED BIT: has anyone got any good sites I can go to to learn a little bit of tech about her beetle? mainly engine, as that is the bit that is new and
different for me. |

hey thanks for the vote of confidence, rotors are my weapon of choice, so I'm building the missus up her dub
would you believe it was my first ever drive of a beetle today? was actually fairly impressed, although I'm sure theres a little more power left
in her yet. |

Another newbie
G'day people, I'm another new guy. Didn't want to start another thread so I thought I'd hijack this one.
I too come from the tradition of Japanese automotive nirvana, with a very, very mild Nissan S13 Silvia with a CA18DET in it.
However, I'm seriously into the beetle, and likewise seriously considering one if I can make it go better than my current beast.

hmm, yes already thought of that, but I'm afraid if we did that, then I would take too much of an interest in it and I cant be bothered with radiator etc to make it work.. not when we have a
warmed over big bore motor here to start with
and black_math, I mean type 3 is funky looking, not in a bad way, they look kinda cool... |

Welcome to you both! Biggus, You can make anycar go quicker than anycar, just costs a bit! Type 4 power, and rest of the stuff will get you going, or
a nice 1916 pobjoy will go quite nice. If you in Melbourne their are a few places that can get a bettle moving!

Thanks a lot for the warm welcome.
I was kind of leaning towards a wasserboxer with a turbo, much like Steve Carters stunning car. Only I've got no idea what a wasserboxer with
all ancilliaries would be worth or where the best place to find one would be.
By a happy coincidence, yes, I am in melbourne.

Maybe Try Australian VW Performance in Bayswater, or Volkspower in Burwood. Volkomenn art in Clayton are great with Big motors as well. But any big
motor will be big bickies, and dont forget insurance cost rise with bigger motors!

Insurance isn't a big concern. I'm 25, rating 1, and I've had a turbo silvia since I was 21, so I'm used to stupidly high
premiums. With the amount that I've spent on insurance in the last 4 years, I could probably have built a pretty reasonable bug by now.
Its all going to be about bang for bucks. Just have to do a lot of research before I take any action.

Well, right name, wrong movies. It was Monty Python.
Yeah, I've looked at doing a 13B conversion, and its still an option, but I want to know more about the wasserboxer before I make a decision.

Judy,
since I'm here asking alot about beetles and seeming to learn a hell of alot too
feel free to give me a PM or whatever if you have any Q's about your sons STB, as I have two of them, one stock work car, and one rotary powered
project (which will be shelved for a little longer to fix the GF's beetle).
or if you need to know about STB mazda's, try having a look around http://www.ausrotary.com forums, there are a few STB guru's around there, and same goes for anyone contemplating a
rotor transplant into a VW.
true car enthusiasts should really respect, if not necessarily like ALL other makes/models that people choose to modify. life and the streets would be
pretty boring if everyone did the same thing. |

ummm what silvia?
an STB is a 1970-74 mazda 1300
but no it isnt standard with the rotor, I fitted it all up myself.
just wait til I get as familiar with VW's as I am with mazdas, then there will be some fun stuff happening. :vader |
