Golf ball sized Hail in storm... Today....

I received an email from a girl today who is having Her Beetle painted at a VW Workshop... 10 beetles were outside.... along with Her mothers non VW car which was totalled... She had sent Me a pic of a Purple Beetle that was just finished last weekend... it was also outside...
Golf ball size hail.. makes a mess of most cars even including VW Beetles which are much stronger than the modern car.
My condolences to anyone who was caught in the storm.....

Hmmm, bad luck about the weather, we had a rough few days of storms in byron as well, no large hail stones though...

I went to riverstone once, to AP spares, is he still there?

A hole may be right but could be a little harsh

We had to go to Lismore for dinner and that was the scariest trip over ever. Incredible lightning but would have rathered been home protecting the house. Byron missed it but i think we got it here(ocean shores) then it moved to tweed and out to see. My parents are camping up at indy and mum rang me in a panik to see whether it was heading their way.
More to come tonight. Go to the bureau of meteorology web site
http://www.bom.gov.au  and click on the state or radar images. There also should be some where about severe thunderstorm warnings.

My sister in law lives at Vineyard, both of their cars got damaged. I was there for a BBQ in the evening (a couple of hours later) & there was still ice on the ground. The amount of crap on the road was incredible! Sorry to hear about the damage wrecker67, real pisser.

I'm just north of brissy, we didn't get it bad......I was sitting in the lounge room with the rain and lighting and thunder and you'd think (since it's normally first) that we wouldn't have hail. but at 9:30 the rain turned to hail, I don't think I've ever moved so quickly, I had the bug in under the patio in around 1 minute.......and that's driving around my house to get to it........no damage here.....

Hope everyone's cars aren't to badly damaged......:( keep your cars in tonight....I'm watching the storm pass over right now......

I just love watching massive electrical storms. We don't get them as big as you guys.

I can remember going to Kirra Beach a few years back and trying to find the place we were strying during a massive down pour:o

I've been in the tropics/Pacific Islands but had never experienced such a heavy downpour. It was kinda exciting at the time:)

Sorry to hear about your cars Wrecker ... i work a kellyville, but luckly my 58 was undercover when the hail came .... i git caught out bad last time , remember a few years ago when we had that really bad hail storm in east / Sydney ... my white 69 got hit hard & often ... it looked like a golf ball afterwards ... and a mate of mine even painted on the doors " DUNLOP 4" as a joke ... it was funny now that i think back ... but it is never nice to see your pride and joy cop a beating from the weather ... next time you come past the Ettamogah Pub @ kellyville ... pop in i'll buy you a beer.

My daughter Bridie has just arrived home from work.

She is at AAMI's call centre here in Melbourne, but they get the after hour calls from around OZ.

She started work at 2pm. She said at 2.30 pm thy got hit with calls from NSW and southern QLD from people who's cars had been damaged in the storms.

They called extra staff in and some staff are doing over time to cope.

Bridie said they had queues of 60 calls waiting at any one time. This was and still is constant. Bridie decided to come home because she had brain meltdown after 8 hours of continual calls.

Geez it must have been so bad up there.

well I am finally back in the civilised world today. A really nasty storm hit Brisbane yesterday, with the worst of it hitting Mt Nebo and Samford area, and I live in Samford.

It flattened a few trees, broke one in half, pulled others out by the roots, and generally made a mess of the place.

We lost power and only just got it back today. Suburban people might think losing power is fun cos you get to get out the candles, but we're on tank water. The pump on the tank needs electricity to pump the water. So we had no power, no running water, no toilets, no showers. Oh what fun.

One tree fell across the driveway blocking it and had to be towed out the way by the baja. Lucky I park in a shed so was safe from the hail.

Broken tree;
