eating speedo cables


what could be the reason for eating speedo cables??? the cable is in the right way i.e. in the right position all the way upto the speedo?

Rhys,
I take it You are replacing the complete cable and not just the inner part.
I find the way the cable runs isn't really a smooth way to do it... its very easily to have a kink or bend in the cable and then the inner part binds and eventually snaps.
What I have done Rhys, is pour some oil down the inside of the cable... You can only do a few drops at a time, but it has to make a difference... try it and see what happens. I always lubricate everything that moves in a car....
If its lubricated, the cable will be hard to bind or kink and break....

The speedo itself can start to jam and will break cables.

I had the problem which steve said. I went through 2 cable sin 2 weeks. the speedo was binding and braking the cables. $80 to rebuild and repair the speedo.

it isnt as bad it more like every 2-3 months!!! ill try your idea lee as the speedo was rebuilt 2 years ago!
