needle and seat replacement
hey
ive never done this and have looked through various manuals to come to no know how on how to replace them!
can someone tell me the once over its for my 1600 type 3 engine!
also is it hard to do while engine in the car?

the needle and seat is in the top of the carby its a 14mm hex head brass fitting with a valve in the center.
WHY are you changing it....
Is the engine being flooded with fuel ???
maybe you should just be bending the float arm to lower the fuel level in the carby ??
Whats the problem

i was told by stan when he tuned my engine that it needed them thats why!! why i think is because they are stuffed and the engine is flooding?

Thats what happens when the gone yes the engine floods with heaps of fuel.
Is it flooding or do you need to adjust the float level.???

i need to do both adjust the float level and replace the needle and seat!!! i think the float level is out cause the guy ran the engine one 4 turns
out with the mixture etc so i think it stuffed the needle and seat and it is leaking past the valve in it!!!
any easy way to adjust the float level?

If the needle and seat are gone yes the fuel will pour continually though it and completely flood yr engine causing it to stop.
Does the engine run at all ???
to adjust the level you add alloy or fibre washers under the head of the needle and seat making it sit out off the carby futher and therefore pushing
down on the float allowing less fuel into the carby bowl.

how do u determine whether u have enough or to many washers???

To work out if you've got enough washers:
Run the engine for a few minutes to let the fuel level in the chamber settle.
Take the top of the carby off.
Measure the distance from the top of the fuel in the chamber up to the edge of the carby.
Compare your measured distance to the specifications in the manual (for my Type 4 solex carbs it's 12 - 13mm).
If your distance is too big you need less washers (to raise the fuel level), if it's too small you need more washers.
My kombi's engine got flooded with petrol overnight when one of the needle valves stuck, so I replaced that valve. A couple of months later the
exact same thing happened with the other one: I wish I'd just replaced them both at the same time.
