Semi Auto (stick shift) problems.

Hi PPL
One of my friends has a stick shift auto, we have had to fiddle with the stick to get it to work properly, it now triggers the vacuum unit solinoid every time, but we still have a problem selecting gears, reverse in particular, although it seems to be a bit intermitant? the only other thing we can think of doing is adjusting the clutch. do you have any clues as to what else could be giving us trouble.
Thanks Rob...

Thanks Ben have to check that!
Could the clutch adjustment be causing these symptoms as well?

ROBO... email address needed.....

Do You have any workshop manuals for the semi auto ??? Its very important to keep the clutch adjusted correctly. If the clutch is correctly adjusted the clutch plate will last indefinately... Its either in or Out... non of this clutch slipping...
I can scan and send You some info.. there is a small easily made tool you need - to make all the adjustments....
What is Your email address & I'll send You some scanned pages....

I'm gonna be a bit more basic than 68 - have you adjusted the shifter position according to a Bentley manual? It can be a bit tricky the first few times. The first time I thought I'd finally figured it out, I had to call a mate to bring a couple of tools and find me (good thing he was an old VW mechanic.) If it's crunching at all positions, Ben's got you on the right track; but if you're not particularly gearbox-savvy, it's probably time to see an expert.
