Starter Motor removal
G'Day,
New here and in need of MUCH help.
1976 VW 1600 Beetle will not start.
The Starter Motor will not turn.
My problem is; How do I remove it.
I've Disconnected the Battery;
Removed all wires to the S/M
Removed the lower 17mm[or is that 15mm] nut;
I cannot locate a nut above the S/Motor.
What is there feels like a rounded off Hex head:repuke
I'm attempting to do this without removing the Body or the Motor.
Thanks for any help.

Theres a 17mm nut that you have to get from the engine side ... put your hand down behind the right hand side of the engine and fan housing you will
feel it.
It has a long bolt that locks into the start housing and stops it from turning.
Undo this and it should pop out.

G'day ROB,
No such luck.
Ours is the only 1 of VERY few Beetles hereabouts. Plenty of older Farm machinery. Only rusts when it rains......

have you tried giving it a tap with a hammer (light tap) while somebody is starting it?
Save water, drive an air cooled Volkswagen.

What I did was to put 12 Volt straight onto the solenoid....................
Nothing, [size=4]nix[/size], [size=5]zip[/size]..................:cry
I'd like to check the brushes
and have a squiz at the bearings;:(
and a general Sticky Beak around.:alien

The similarities between the Beetle and Motoguzzi are quite apparent.
Easy to keep going,
cheapish to run,
Air-cooled pushrod - though the cylinders of the Goose are not quite as lazy;
they do not lay down
Many parts on the Goose have Auto equivalents out there
as a MUCH cheaper option when it comes time to replace.

yep thats my Orangeeee Smooothieee and the colour is called Daves Orange.
Its a made up colour secret formular. Not yellow at all.
