Flashing oil light
OK, so Buddah the kombi has been reincarnated yet again. If I haven't got it right this time it's as close as I'm ever gunna go, BUT,
as soon as it warms up, the oil light starts flashing.
Took it for a gentle 500km run yesterday, empty one way, with a good ton in it the other.
Empty, doing 100, no problem, drop back to 60 thru a town & the oil lights on but stay on 60 for a while & it goes out again.
Coming home, the light was flashing for the last 120km, irrespective of revs.
I was never low on oil, in fact I had a touch to much.
There are no distinctive rattles of clunks to say the oil aint flowing.
Could this be electrical? Do I need a different oil? Any clue will do for a start....

Buddah is telling you... you have a major problem ahead in '04. A change to Penrite50 or 60 will buy you more time. Buddah engine feeling its age
since last rebuild. Early change of bearings may save it for another year or two, but while you have the case apart to replace 'em, you should
fit new rings and have a crank grind at the same time. need not cost the earth if you do disassembly and reassemble yourself.

It's just been rebuilt, that's why I don't think it's the engine itself.

have you tried another oil pressure sensor? just a thought, cos they're so cheap. Good luck. :thumb

I'll rephrase that.
The motor was reco'd no more than 7000 kms ago. Rings & seals have seen less than 1000 ks

ah, that is interesting. If the oil light is flashing only at idle when very hot, i would not worry too much. If the light is flashing periodically,
possibly a short in the wiring.
who did up your engine? there are engine builders and there are engine builders. One well known firm in cairns cracked my engine block (1600) years
ago by using the mains brgs for a 20 thou linebore in a std case. then torqued the case without checking for free rotaion of the crank every half turn
of the case nuts. its a worry.

Spook,
Get hold of a pressure gauge and check the oil pressure, the oil light should never come on when the engine is running, its telling you something
isn't right.
Big ends will tell you something isn't right soon:o

Penzoil in, oil light out.
This morning when I fired it up, the oil light stayed on with the engine cold.
It would appear the oil I was using (I'm pretty sure we have a "non naming" policy) didn't cope with the VW heat.
But I'll get the pressure looked at too......

Get a small pressure gauge and hook it directly into the oil light switch hole and see what pressure you have both cold and hot idle and revs... or
course you will have to stop n open the engine lid to look at it
