75 L Struts???
Hello
I'm trying to rehabilitate the suspension on my 75L. (The Struts are quite different from the earlier Ls & Supers.) My problem is the tops of
the struts, which when viewed from above have a cup shaped plate which is held in place by the bolt on the shaft & which sits in a white nylon
bush. This bush is set into the top of the bearing plate & the cup- shaped plate turns with the shaft when the steering wheel is turned. Mine has
significant play between the nylon bush & the cup-shaped plate which decreases when the car body is jacked up & the wheels & suspension
left to "hang"; ie the whole suspension drops. In fact if you grab a wheel & rock it, the top of the strut rocks in this bush. I've
had them out & the local VW expert inserted some spacers to take up the slack (he reckoned the bearings were OK). Now that I've put them back
in, they don't seem to be much better & the "shimmies & shakes", while improved, are still there. I can't believe the
arrangement is not supposed to be more secure & robust than it seems but I can't find anything specific on the set-up of the tops of these
later-type struts either in manuals or on the net. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I used to have a 75L. I had the shakes and installed some urethane bushes on the lower arms. The inner bushes that have the eccentric camber bolt, in
the pan.
It helped but the shakes were still there. I never fixed the problem completely.

Get the wheels balanced on the car by your local BOB Jane or whoever. I've been shakeless for 8 years now.
It costs roughly $25 per wheel. It's the best .

Im pretty sure that you can fit just the top part from a 71 - 74 super onto your strut.
