new tyres
i currently have stock 1973 kombi rims and have tyre size 185/75 R14. what size can i go on the original rims and what brand of tyres do people
reccomend.
Save water, drive an air cooled Volkswagen.

You can go either 175/14(narrower) or 195/14.(wider) Bear in mind that they have to be commercial tyres for load and not car tyres.
As far as brand really depends on how much you can afford..

You dont need LT (light truck) tyres on a kombi do you? I'm running Hankook K406 tyres on the rear of my oval... they had a good review in Europe
and they came in the top 3 or 4 in the wet braking tests. They are also relatively cheap. They are symetrical and non-directional so it makes it
easier to rotate them around your tank, I mean bus. I paid $125 for a V-rated 225/60/15. They have silca in them too which all manufacturers are
claiming reduce the rolling resistance (saves $) and better grip in all conditions(saves your @$$)

alternatively, you could grovel to CT Hansen (full_noise?) coz he works for Yokohama and could cut you a deal...:thumb

Check with your insurance company, because some stipulate LT tyres for vehicals of a Kombi's weight. Have an accident with radials on and they
can get out of paying. I have a friend that this has happened to!
I run LT's on my Kombi and it definately handles better, rides a litle harsher, but less sway in the rear. and I haven't had a puncture for
10 years.
