dellow and caslemaine rod shop both do bellhousing kits to fit the 1UZFE (lexus 4.0L) V8 to the Renault R30 gearbox.
awesome conversion! the renault box handles it no worries according to the guys at http://www.carbontech.com (.au?) who make the lamborghini replicas using this combo.
the diff can be flipped with no major drama other than the speedo drive on the box no longer mating, but as VW uses the speedo off the front wheel
anyway it's no big deal.
you can get a 1UZ front cut from a Crown or Soarer for under $2500 these days which gives you every electrical gizmo to run the motor complete, all
you'd need is the renault box and fabricate the mounts and linkage. apparently the 100mm kombi CV's mate straight up to the R30 drive
flanges, though I don't know if the width of the box is the same.
The renault box you need is designated as an UN1 gearbox, and is found in the R25, R25 turbo, R30, Audi 100 and Audi 80 (I think) as well as some
renault vans. some are LSD and asll have different ratios, so some time with google is needed.
top idea for a kombi conversion! you'd be damn hard pressed to find a better combo I recon. |

are you sure it's a UN1 box and not a 359?
359 is R20 and won't cope with huge power.
even ford 9" diffs will break when given enough abuse.

if you want to use a renault box, then you want a UN1 box, not a 35x box. UN1 is from Renault 30, Renault 25 turbo and a few others
Renault 20 and Renault 17 etc used a 35x box and it will not cope with big power. |

The class one
I know some on that has the R30 box grafted the 9" to it and wears it out in one race ,as the 2K clutch plate .
racing costs $$$$
I found you a box secoh its in the for sale postings seagull

seagull thanks I saw that, it's about $1500 overpriced for me though.
how does one graft on a 9"? if it that sort of thing isnt done to very fine tolerances it'd last 30 seconds.
abuse will kill anything too. a G50 would last no longer.

Yes you should see it wow
This car is Wa number one ,It not abuse mate its HP I try and a photo of it .It is no where close to me but I will get there one day . If you find a
R30 close ratio box ,get two I have never seen one for a 1K the gear set we have is worth 4K ( it is new ) the box does brake ,the 2ltr turbo renault
motor we had build would not go far with out shiting the R30 ,there has been many that tryed over here . The box also had oil injection fitted .
They are not strong at all !!
The 9 " conversion is IRS power turbo V6 nissan .

so far I have a R20 359 box ($200, came with a complete car which I sold $200 of bits off) and I have lined up a audi 5+5 5sp transaxle in a complete
driveable and registered car for...you guessed it....$300.
neither are as strong as a UN1, but for street use or a light car on the circuit they might be fine. And a damn sight cheaper than $2500.
we'll see. this is all meaningless until I have one in the car and am flogging the arse off it.

Hi
Slightly of the subject, those front wheel drive Merc vans have a 5 speed transaxle in them, wonder what they are like, strenght and ratios wise.

apparently the ratios are pretty wide, but someone said they were actually one of the reccommended boxes, though I can't remember if it was UN1
or Audi 016. For some reason UN1 rings a bell....

mmmm
Ok so lets talk Box's
I see the UN1 is the pick for some but I have to ask why ?? With a 3.88 diff centre electronic speedo sender anmd gear ratios that don't really
seem what I am after.
The UN5 seems liek a better option. It take 300 honest HP and still goes strong. Has a 5.85 diff with a good set of 5 speed ratios and a 0.683 5th
gear. LSD is also availible and a good option. As they come out of the Reno Master Commercial Van they have seen some heavy work already an dproven
themselved quite strong.
AT 720 mm long with 220 of these being face to center of axle and 500 from centre of axle to nose cone and aside cable shifter there are a few small
problems with the conversion. Namely an extra 200mm to cope with ..
But I have seen them fitted so it can be done. Cost wise I can get them all day long at $1650
Here it is in a Kombi ..

Has someone already made a bellhousing for them, or do I still have to do it from scratch?
