F**ked bug - with pics & sad story! - can we help?

today as i was walking to work i noticed many tow trucks and police cars and an ambulance down the street.

on further inspection, it was what appeared to be a bomadore having very quickly run a stop sign and smashed *very* hard into the drivers side of a beautiful red bug.:cry:cry:cry

I hope this was no-one from the forum, or anyone known to anyone from the forum, as it looked pretty serious and very F**ked up and very bent.

i hope the drivers of both vehicles are alright, especially the driver of the bug who would have been hurt the most.

please be careful on the roads peoples, and look out for stop signs and speeding comodores.

Here's the article about it from the courier mail today;

http://www.couriermail.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5936,8654423%255E3102,00.html

I wonder if the forum people could get together and help out these poor two VW driving women? Just a thought...

No but I am sure we would find out through the police or couriermail, if we say who we are and we want to help. Be like a joint multiple vw club and forum project...

would need a lot of keen helpers though...

And if the driver did break her hip she won't be driving for a while.

I think it would be a great idea to help these 2 women in some way. perhaps someones got a spare beetle shell lying around and someones got a spare engine and we could all take a resto job and make them one that hasnt been smashed up:)

it would be even better to do something to help fix up the stupid chroming problem in west end, but you cant help those who do not want to be helped... sad really. makes me angry that those at fault could get out and run away, but the ones who get hit get a lap full of tree and broken bones.

Its a crap situation and i hope those boys get whats coming to them.

yeah good idea, we can form a vigilante gang and clean up the streets :D

Well I guess how we help if at all will be determined by what their situation is. They obviously aren't going to get an insurance payout from the other car, so if they don't have comprehensive insurance than they are probably going to be without a car, then maybe we can help.

We need a volunteer with a little bit of spare time who can try contacting the police and seeing if we can help or what the situation is. Anyone?

I have a close frind at West End Police, I'm sure I can find out the drivers details if you think this is becoming a plan. Email me and I'll get to it if there is a consensus.

Bettyboop, i shouldnt be so generalising in the comment im about to make, but all the evidence points to making this generalisation.

These kids parents know where they are, and know they are chroming. They would be sitting in the park on edmonstone st. (where the kids stole the car) downing cheap beer and cask wine. These parents would know what their kids have done and would either bash the crap out of them or not give a flying F**k. These kids cant be helped when the parents cant even help themselves.

next time you are in west end, near musgrave park, take a look... you'll see kids and bottles everywhere. I have lived in this suburb for almost 5 years and it is the only problem i have with living here. It makes me so sad and angry that both the kids and the parents should be left to waste their lives away like this, no amount of help or kindness you offer will ever help them.

and it doesnt surprise me at all that these kids could run away from an accident like this, which for all intents and purposes could have been VERY fatal. They have no concience because they dont realise that they need to have one, they have never been taught right or wrong or respect for anybody, including themselves.

It doesnt make what they did any less wrong. infact it makes it more wrong because they dont know any better. Blame the system and blame the victims of that system.

Thats my rant for the day... now to business.

its great to see such support for these 2 ladies on this forum, from people they dont even know! lets hope we can get some info on how they are and what we can do to help:sandrine

jenz, have no fear... i have decided after seeing 2 serious beetle accidents (both red beetles) and having a minor one myself(a red beetle), that im going to paint mine yellow for better luck:D

OK I have chatted to my mate who is a cop in that area of town and he is going to see the ladies in hospital to see if they are interested in a bit of assistance. Apparently they were badly injured (broken pelvis-driver, fractured skull-passenger) as such we will have around three months to get something together. Just a little bit from each of us and we could help cancel out this atrocity, perhaps restoring everyone’s faith in society. I’ll post when I find out if they would like to hear from us but at the least we could do the whole card and flower thing if they want left alone.

should also look into getting the wreck. I am sure there would be parts and things that would be able to be used..possibly engine since fromt the picture it looks like a frontal only injury.

ok easy as this, the car is a write off and is covered by insurance so at this stage that seems to be fine. I mentioned to Rodney (father) that we could perhaps all send them a card/flowers etc... An idea which he liked the sounds of. Anyway I think that we should all at the VERY LEAST send them a card helping to lift there spirits. If people want to put in for something more substantial post here and we will see how much interest there is. Anyway for all those that are interested U2U me and I will give the girls details to you so we can send them some well wishes.

Don't want to seem too politically correct but here goes a suggestion that might help the girls and the chroming thing.
How about ask the police/courts in Qld about any alternate juvenile offenders programmes? Perhaps in liason with such a programme the car could be fixed and either these offenders or others could help fix the car with mentoring forum members. This would be a good start for these young guys' self esteem, could be seen as something of a pilot project and lead to a change in life for them.
We have had quite a problem with similar cases in WA. The other day I was passing the entrance to a Centrelink which is near a shopping centre. Out came two young guys and immediately sprayed into a plastic bag. Very sad sight to see. Victims all round I think.
