V6 conversion


Hi all, just wondering if anyone knows of someone in melbourne that can do V6 holden conversion into my 76 bay. Also anyone have any ideas regarding radiator setup without killing the front end look, a big ask i know but i hate radiators on bull bars! Won't be till later this year though. Also lowering the thing without having to drive to indian in sydney.:jesus regards

hey i dont know anyone in melbourne doing conversions but for the radiator there is a guy on here (dan) that is making cradles for the radiator that sit between the 2 cross members underneath!!! very neat design (i have one) and are veery soldially made out of quality stainless steel!!!
and trust me the drive upto sydney is well worth it to visit indian automotive!

If you are looking for engine conversions in Melbourne - I was talking to Wolfgang from W&M Motors recently about conversions. He is pretty keen. He has a 6 cylinder Porshe powered Kombi and has a few Porshe engines coming in form the states. He might be worth a call on 9464 2248

Thanks, Ill look into these options. Unfortunately the sydney trip is awkward, me working days and using the van on weekends for "other "stuff (work):cool: but it's not urgent to get it done so you never know. guess I'll have to make time!

CBB have sucessfully mounted radiators behind the skin on the front of bay kombis.

the Rad in my V6 bus is mounted underneath.
It's out of a HX V8. apparently it's the largest one that'll fit between the chassis rails. it's mounted on about a 30deg angle, with a couple of thermo fans blowing through it. there's a bit of a cowling that sits behind the front beam that directs air from between the front wheels, through the rad.
Simple, neat and effective.
you can't tell from the outside what's inside. :D

Look at the second picture of the mid mount v8 by Dan. It appears to have a louvred front. Either they like fresh air or it's got the radiator mounted there.

Thanks for the input guys, think I'll go with the rad under. still don't fancy driving to sysney for lowering it, must be someone in melb! Maybe an opportunity here for someone!?:)

CBB radiator


please don't go cutting horrid louvres in the front panel of bays like CBB did with their stretch bus.
It ruins the whole front look of the bus. That aside, it weakens the front panel and is liable to make it rust out when it should not. This is added to by a reduced amount of footroom and the possibility of boiling coolent spraying on passengers if you burst a hose.
Mounting the radiator under the bus is much slicker and more effective. It is also reversable if you go back to air cooled later.

Boiling coolant spraying on passengers if you burst a hose.......hmmmmm, so does this mean the same thing goes for T3 transporters as well? as they have their radiator in the same place....If you have looked at the CBB bus there is a panel seperating the radiator from the interior of the bus.

Ok, ummm, I might have got abit carried away with the boiling coolent bit.
But really, the placement wasn't that flash and the louvres totally wrecked the front panel. Also, the radiator isn't totally sealed from the interior of the car. The panel on the inside would have to be removed to get the rad out. I'm sure this is not the case in Type 111 transporters. Then there's the issue of lost footroom etc.
Really and truly the solution they found for the radiator placement was just symptomatic of the general approach to the stretching of the car and the engine conversion. It all just seemed a bit gimicky and not real well thought out.
Suppose the whole car was just not to my tastes.:(

Hey gang,
thanks for the input. Engine will go ahead, rad under. I've hit a bit of a stumbling block with my ideas on lowering the bus. Been told the indian setup is not RTA approved in Vic.? Sent an email to them awhile ago but no reply. Does anyone have thoughts? Sorry got off track a bit, I know this is engine conv. forum. Will post elsewhere as well
