F-Vee Headjob


Lifted my heads off the race engine and took them in for a freshen up and a hike in Comp. ratio as allowed in the latest rules for F-Vee 1200cc.

The valve seats have been so heavily throated and cut so many times that by the time the seats and valve faces are re-cut, there will not be enough meat on the valve heads and the valves will drop waaay too far into the head.

This has resulted in having to replace all the valve seats, throating and re-shaping them again, recut the 3 angle valve faces and 4 angle valve seats and matching all the porting.................... One thing is that the seats can be reshaped to exploit the "venturi" effect.

Phhtttttt..... money money money.

The dammned thing was running just fine too!!

Oh well! You get that.

how's this for crazy:
I have dental work planned (bastards used a special dental rotary tool to cut into my pocket while they were sucking my tongue from its mooring at the back of my mouth with some weird 2400 watt industrial drool sucker, so they could find out how much money I had on me, and charged accordingly)
My motorbike's STILL being fixed (read resprayed and gaffa taped together) for something like 800 bucks
My dub needs tires, and brakes, rear swaybar, narrower springs/struts and TLC.

watch me go mad while I watch the aussie dollar dip below 'excuse to buy VW stuff from the states' level while I desperately attempt to resolve cash flow problems...

What brakes should i get from the states? :D
gotta have your priorities straight ;)

I want to go for four wheel disks, but am not sure what are tough, fade resistant and worth getting. the fronts on my super are "dangerous" and the rears are new drums (cause they were "dangerous" a few months ago and i had to have something done quick)

anyone tries the roto-hubs from CB performance? i believe they come in 'blank' form so I can get a diff stud pattern drilled and hence cheapo aftermarket alloy wheels to suit. and then the right tires for the wheels...
where does it end?

the I'll need a new shell. and on it goes...:jesus

so what are good disks?

Hmmmmm dramas galore for you dude!

I believe XF falcon rears are the go. Cheap and easy to find.
You can get caliper bracket made up.
Contact Wes about this. He has done the conversion on his buggy.

Ian swinkles is using vented 944 Porsche disks on the front of his Turboed Beetle.

Nice conversion too.

On another note. I managed to pick up some virtually new heads from the same tuner that originally set up my existing heads for wayy less than what it would cost to get mine redone so I am calling the head guy to stop the job and I will just re-assemble the heads as they are for spares. Fully re-coed, new guides and well ported for F-Vee for 500 bucks. Not really high rev heads but best for tassie tracks! yay!

I managed to get a set of wheels made by ROH to suit my Type 3 stud pattern and the backspace measurement I need.

Really nice looking wheels too! Wanna be for nearly 1100 bucks but this is not so bad for a set of custom made 3 peice ally wheels.....I hope!!!

i priced roh and they brought me round an hour later using a board with nails in it. it was considerably less painful than looking at the quote in my pocket when i got home.
also simmons, also painful.

will have to figure out the xf thingy, i take it it's easy enough to fit?

i imagine you would pay about 3 to 400 a wheel yeah?

yeah its all pretty good to do the brake mods.

You can pretty much get all the bits if you dont want to make the urself.

XF stud pattern....Yep.
If you set your disks up out of new undrilled blanks on all corners then you can drill them for whatever stud pattern that gives you a stiffy!!!
