Another Aussie German Looker
Another hot superbug is soon to hit the streets. Brendans 71 superbug was an absolute throw away the first time I saw it in his garage, but he saw
through it all an evisioned a hot German look beetle.
It features fully adjustable struts, 17 inch wheels, custom dash & a 2110 stroker!
All work has been done. by the owner, from welding all the repair panels, painting it in his garage, porting his 044 heads & all the engine
assembly!
Gives new meaning to the Phrase "Bult not bought::thumb
It may not be quite ready in time for the Nationals, but fingers crossed dude
Congratulations to Ben Durie for breaking the hillclimb record at Ringwood in his stroker beetle!

Thanks for the kind words guys. It has been 18 months to this point! The car was originally going to be Cyan Blue (The color of the fan shroud) but my
daughter convinced me to go the green.
The pictures above were after the 3 main color coats and a 800 and 1200 rub back awaiting final coats. I finished the painting yesterday. 1 coat of
40% color and 60% clear. 2 coats of 5% color and 95% clear. How good is it when you peel the masking off!!! Im real pleased with the results.
It'll only need a light rub back with 1200 and then a light buff. I'll post some more pics after that. In the mean time if you want to have
a look at some other pics and text go to Angry Gumby in the members rides.
Jeremy this site has kept me going! Watching all the other builds and wanting to keep up.

Lugnuts,
The dizzy is off a 86 magna ($45 from the wreckers plus $40 for the machining). I have also built a Jaycar programmable curve ignition system and high
energy module to go with it. I will start the engine with the original dizzy first then "introduce" the new bits once everything else is
sorted.
How good is that paint job on David's bug? If mine turns out half as good as that I'll be rapt. |

I'm not sure that I like the words "flog it" when referring to the fruits of my labor
It will be real interesting to see how it pulls down low with that rod ratio.
As far as HP is concerned I'm hoping for mid 90s at the rear wheels with good torque readings. Anything above that is a real bonus. |

David's 2333 only put out 89hp on the dyno. The heads on the engine are tiny 35mm ports. They are ported but small.
It is currently being reassembled with CB performance 040 CNC ported heads with ratio rockers.
That will wake the baby up.
Those polished fuchs are up for sale. It now has 18 inch turbo twists. Helps see those porsche/brembo brakes really well........

Its an 82mm crank with 5.4 inch cb rods (5.394 is standard I think) engle 110 cam, standard rockers, 40x35 044's 40mm dells. Should be a great
tourqey motor, perfect for a stock geared full weight superbug on the street.:thumb

I'll post all the engine specs..
AS41 Case (clearanced by me). 10mm studs and case savers.
Bugpak 82mm crank.
CB H beam 5.4inch race rods.
Mahle 90.5 stroker pistons.
CB 044 40x35.5 heads single HD springs. (I unshrouded the valves, straightend up the intakes a little and opened them up, cleaned and polished the
exhaust ports) geez I love that porting tool!
Chromoly pushrods.
Engle 110 cam (the engine was originally going to be a 1916cc)(will be replace with something a bit more special later eg: K8 &1.4:1 rockers).
Lightened flywheel.
All rotating parts balanced.
Full flow oil pump.
Standard oil cooler as well as Mesa style external cooler and external filter.
'86 Magna dizzy with programmable ignition.
I originally started this car to give to my daughter as her first car with a mild engine.
I think I've got a bit carried away in the last 18 months. Maybe I should buy another 1302 for her and keep this one and install a roll cage.

snappy all right Steve, I drove a 2387cc(86x94) with 5.5 inch rods & it was on from idle, no waiting around for the K-8 cam to kik in, it was off
from the get go, it had 120@ the wheels with only old unported 041 heads & 8.5:1 compression! It felt as though the engine & gearbox was going
to come through the firewall & end up on your lap! Awesome & scary at the same time:thumb

The Cyan color does look great! I kept the blue on the tinware and the underbody for a contrast. Looks good now the car is painted and buffed.
I will post pics this weekend once the guards and on with beading.
Jodie, sometimes I thought I'd never finish the welding (2 heater channels, section the floor for new seat mounts, battery tray area, + more than
a dozen other panels) I did all the welding old school with the oxy acetylene torch. It took over a year to strip it down and back to the point of
finishing the welding.

I'l repost the completed paint pictures. The car now has all 4 guards on and I'm installing the L bug 3.88:1 gearbox. I had to have 2 goes at this
since when I changed the front nose cone I did not have all the selector shafts lined correctly.

OK the Gumby was a bit of fun. (Reference to Angry Gumby in Members Rides).
The engine is in!! Oil system is plumbed up. Making ally sheet apron to replace the steel one.

Just had another look at it. The ride height looked great until I rolled it backward and forwards a couple of times. The only problem is it's got
nothing in it except for the longblock. Looks like resetting the suspension AGAIN!:cry
It's probably out by 1 inch at the rear axle.
A few weeks ago I made one of those spring plate tensioner tools that bolt to the shock tower and hooks under the plate to let it down gently.
