A WAREHOUSE LOAD OF KOMBIS

In a warehouse at Coomera, Gold Coast is a '58 Camper,'64 Single Cab,'71 Micro Bus,'74 Double Cab with 1.2million Kms,'79 Channel 10 Kombi,'90 T3 Panel Van and a 1992 Double Cab Syncro.
They are all waiting for the car transporter to pick them up and return them back to Sydney later this week.
All vehicles were part of the new VW T5 vehicle launch at Stradbroke Island last week. There were 16 new T5s there in all configurations including the top of the line Caravelle.
Another feature was a new Caddy panel van which is to be released here in Oz shortly.

I saw the loaded transporter travelling the highway through Byron, chased it to Ballina (30mins) and had a good look at every overtaking lane (about 3) the poor ole singlecab was getting a bit shitty with me for pushing her so hard, but a nice look all the same.
Who do they belong to?

My wife supplies merchandise to VGA in SYD.. She was working on the T5 launch and has some good ctcs within the volkswagen company.. I'll see what she can find out.. In fact I was going to see if they have some kind of corporate archives as I especially want to find out about the RAAF double barn doors supplied in the 60's..

A CAR CARRIER FULL OF KOMBIS

There are a number of various owners for the T1,T2 and T3 Kombis displayed at the T5 Launch last week. I own the '58 Camper ( hopefully it was on the car carrier). Others are owned by various NSW based enthusiasts. Two are from the NSW country- Gulgong and Wellington.
It will be good to get them back to Sydney where the first thing I need to do is to replace the clutch in the Camper.
Hoping to get some pics together for the Aussie Camper site over the next few weeks.

Stenguns,
Having worked closely with VGA for some years I can tell you their local Corporate Archives are very limited. They would have nothing about the T1 RAAF bus. For the T5 Launch myself and two fellow enthusiasts provided VGA with historical photos, videos and publications. The production company worked a treat in putting together 6 separate CDs (internal use only) which were the basis of the T5 launch presentations.
If you need some further specific detail I have a VWA Review from August which states the initial Air Force order was for 16 (Model 224) Micro Buses and 16 (Model 216) double door delivery vans. They wer all painted in "Golden Yellow: with white roof.
Send me an email or U2

Thanks for that Bill..
I have actually come up against some blank stares at VGA already.. What a pity.. Considering they had a plant here for years and were number two in sales for a while, it would be nice to dive into a rich archive..
Cheers
