Gearbox Identification, Anyone know How..?
Is there a way (Not unlike chassis numbers) you can Identify a Gearbox by the stampings on the case...
I want to know if the box I have is from a 1500 or a 1300 (Swin axle)
Maby I will have to calculate the input to output turns... Hmmmm hard to messure...
I just want to know if it is the higher ratio box or if the Wreckers have told me a fib...!
Avagooday..

Hi
You can try counting the number of turns you get in 4th gear while turning the spigot shaft.
One other thing, post 68 boxes had long axles, 1500 boxes had a v peice to hold the engine bolt (top bolt right hand side near #1 cylinder), the 1300
boxes had no v because they had a doghouse fan housing, so the bolt was tightened from under the car.
