Need help dis-assembling

het all
I need some help from the group. I am pulling the rear bits of the pan of 'step child' and have looked at a dead end. How do you get the swing arm off where it joins the pan in the centre? There is a three grooved sort of thing there, but how do you get it all apart?
Reason for this is to clean the whole thing, repaint (ie: get rid of the red dust that is growing inside the tunnel etc), and rebuild confident that everyhting is in the best condition it can be.
Any advise welcome :)

Another clue

Ooops,
should have said its a 68 auto pan with IRS. Its the swing arm connecting diagonally from the pan to the rear wheel bearings/axle

If you're talking about where the swing (IRS) arm attaches to the pivot boxes right next to the frame forks? If so there should be a big 17mm Allen head bolt that holds it all in (unless I am thinking of a different part). You can buy 17mm Allen head attachments for a socket, or you can make your own by welding two 17mm bolts together (the threads - best to shorten them) - put one bolt head into the allen head bolt and use the other bolt head to turn via a socket etc. I use it for gearbox drain plugs as well. Crude but it works! Otherwise I think you can double nut a 17mm bolt and do the same thing.

Ignore this if you are talking about something else! I used the above "tool" to undo an IRS rear end recently though.

Ta

Nope thats the part alright.
One of the other reasons I want to pull it all apart :) Its full of crap, mud and other stuff. I found the hex shape tonight when my neighbour decided to take a look. I will get a 17mm allen head attachment tomorrow after work.
Thanks
Chris
