Painting and preparing a buggy Body??
Ok i have an old buggy body i want to repaint now it has the normal stress cracks etc in it so what is the best filler to use in these. What is the
correct way to repair these stress cracks. Also what is the best type of paint to use from home with no spray booth. i have a good compreser and a
good gravity feed gun etc to use. And a shed to do it in. Any ideas would be great thanks

u gonna pretty up the sacrificial lamb 4 black duck?? May I suggest some masking tape and chewing gum! For the really big holes use newspaper???

mmmmmmbbbbogggggggin! use a fiberglass one, not wood putty, whilst it looks similar, it's well,,,, different..... hehehehe...
and now for some more serious sugestions.. fire away peeps. (just not at me caus i am fragile ) |

Hmmm such helpful hints:P but no I am not to worried about the sacrificial lamb for black duck ( not sure if it will be ready anyway) but I have
bought another buggy that I would like to paint before going on the road.

:thumb .... Ignore my dwibble, I too am curious as to what is best in this situation, will ur std bog do or just crack again.... is there some
magical product? I have a deightful weblike network of cracks on bonnet, I too one day may even consider a big shiny pretty up on baja (last on list
of priorities for festy.. big engine comes first..hehe). I have fixed dings and holes with fiberglass patches (stoopid trees) and the fibreglass
putty (has actual fibres in the mix, holds well and smooths out nicely,, but as to those stress cracks... they seem to come back.... :alien
ohh btw andy.. house paint hold up well....(enamel works a treat...) I know my first car looked gooooodddd.. |

House paint hmmm that reminds me of a nice old man that once assured me if you put your tin of house paint into a bucket of warm water to keep the
paint warm you get less brush marks and it looks more like a spray job:o I am yet to try it though

:P hmmm I only use stoney cold paint ..... All I need now is someone in brissie area to teach me the finer points of airbrushing and automotive
paint finishes,, I could become a professional car tattooist.... ...
shhh don't tell festybug though... it likes being crusty!

For Cracks: you need to drill a tiny hole at the end of every crack, this will stop it progressing. You then need to grind the gelcoat from the crack
and repair with new gelcoat.

Ahhh thats ok they all keep me amused but I think I will just paint it in acrylic and try to do the best I can with the cracks but I can not be
bothered drilling all them and grinding out the gel coat as there would be No buggy left:thumb

You will have to grind those stress cracks right out or they will come back. Then you need to look at what caused them and rectify that problem. The
speedster has a layer of coremat ? glassed into the inner top of the wheelwell to absorb some impact and to stop crazing on the paint side from road
debris. Bring on the itchies......have fun:P

Yep going to give it a bit of a pretty up. Have it just over half sanded already which has been no meen feat seeing as it is painted in hammertone and
that shit is hard to sand of again. Seems as if the buggy is destined to stay in QLD
.

I am at the stage of doing a long wheel base my self .the fiberglass is no problem I can do that .I have added a extra layer under my body ,and over
the joints to add strenth .I ground the paint off under the body first .mine has had some very dogy repair in the past ,so I cut them out and will
start fresh .
I would like to ask is it ok do do paint in acrylic over fiberglass I will putty and prime it ?? seagull
