Help date this splitty - PICTURES ADDED

My brother has located a splitty in VIC country.. It is in a paddock and we are going to go and get it out..
I am having trouble dating it and hope someone can help.. I will have pix up tomorrow but just to get you going.. here is what I have..

Rear vents are horizontal.. 3 high under the roof gutter and 9 lower under the waist line.. both sets are the same length

Front indicators are low down just above the bumper

There is a fantastic black smooth horn button with an inset gold Wolfsburg crest on it

The steering wheel is two spoke

One centred speedo, molded into the dash.. No passenger grab bar.. No other instruments

The dash is full length

It has a rear bumper

It has barn doors (Type 21 Panel)

Thats about it.. I have three photos her so can give more tips to anyone that has a clue..

By the way.. The plate (in the engine) 21? 437444

These indicators really bugger me up.. Did they ever have low square ones on a splitty?.. Must have been very late.. In which case, they may be the clue to ageing her..

There is surface rust over most of the body.. Some structural rust in the offside front cnr and accident damage to the same cnr.. Nothing a capable person would be scared off by.. All other panels are straight.. Instruments, bright bits etc are all there except for the headlights and wipers.. Windows are good.. Rubbers need replacing all round

Where in Vic.(U2U me) maybe I could go get pics for ya if it is close. Sounds mega wierd.. You sure it is a VW? It sounds like a stupid question, but there is NO VW's with a central dash speedo.. Not Beetles, not country buggys, nothing.

What is 60-94.. If it didn't have semaphores.. what type of indicators would it have?

I'd guess late 59. No front indicators and I can't see a centre brake light on the engine lid. The bumpers don't look pressed to either.

Correct.. No centre brake light on engine lid.. These indicators have me baffled.. If the ones on the front are aftermarket.. where are the originals positioned?.. I can't see holes above the headlights on the front.. Unless they filled them..

Thanks Mate.. I am getting a higher res scan so i can blow them up a little..
I haven't seen the bus yet.. My bro is going to slip it onto a trailer and get it to his place.. It is on blocks so we will need a set of rims with any old rubber on them.. Any ideas?

I stand corrected.. apparently they continued with semephores on some models til 1960..
Vintagebus.com says they were terminated in 1956
So I guess you're right Andy, a 1959..

Now what shall I do with it...

1) Blast and Preventative coat and then store it for years till I get around to it..
2) Try and get it running and rat it..
3) Sell it!

Only the American market got indicators before 60. All other markets stayed with semaphores until then.

OK.. Thanks.. So two spoke wheels started in 55 and semaphores finished in 60..

How hard are semaphore parts to get now?

I've heard that parts for splitty's are outrageous.. One reason why I have lots of bays but no splitty's.. Till now..
I think I'll clean it out, blast it and prime the whole bloody thing.. Then shove it in a shed for a while while I think on it..
