6 Rib vs 6 Rib ..... ?
Ok, so I thought there was basically 3 types for Kombi IRS gearbox. And we're building a 3 hi powered subi buggies (2 LWB, 1 Manx) so I figured all 3
would need 6-Rib boxes. So I started shopping.
I now own 2 6-rib boxes, and it seems not all 6-rib boxes were created equal.
Both these boxes are 6 rib but as you can see the bottom box has V shaped ribs where the top one has straight ribs. They both have exactly the same
part number on the case 091 etc.
Does anyone know what the difference's are between these two boxes other than visual? Like what year are each out of? What gear ratios, which is
toughter? etc...
Any info would be good.

So what's the DIFF
In off road racing the V-rib is the better one to go for but thats if you rebuild it with super diff's and stuff (don't know about stock). Plus I
can send you some photo's of more and different 6-rib's. I have been told that its in the depth of the ribs and that it makes for different diff
ratio. good or bad stuff if I know... but bigger is better lol

Mike,
Have a look at the gearbox code: it should start with CP and then some numbers. From memory I think you will find it located on the bottom left side
of the main gearbox case. (Although I may be wrong!!) . If you find them under the dirt, post them and I'll see if I can tell you any differences.

CP 03 01 8
And the Bottom one is
CP 25 03 6
Where can I find out what these mean?

Mike the numbers are basically the date of manufacture. eg CP 03 01 8 means that it was manufactured on the 3rd of January 1978 and CP 25 03 6 means
that it was manufactured on the 25th of March 1976.
If both the codes are CP then they should have the same internals., the 091 with factory lsd etc had different codes, I think it was CN for the 091
with the lsd. As far as i am aware all the CP 091 boxes came with a 4.571: 1 diff ratio.
Probably the castings were just made using different moulds since the two boxes you have are manufactured 2 years apart.
