Buggy Brad's Mega Manx

Well when I started this project back in 2000 my aim was to build the ultimate Meyers Manx Buggy. Like many buggy owners I had owned a few offroad vehicles and all had had issues in one area or another. I had always loved the Manx so I decided to build a Mega Manx with more power, ground clearance and cool features than any other Manx I had ever seen or owned before.

To start out I needed to find an acceptable body. After a few calls I located a nice body sitting just up the road so went and got that. The body was pretty close to perfect so my project was looking good.

Once I got it home I started my plan and cut it in half…… yep that’s right I got a perfect Australian Meyers Manx Body and cut it in half……… mad hey ??

Anyway the aim was to widen it by 8” to allow for my running gear ……

http://www.offroadvw.net/BradForum/1.jpg

The body was in good condition with no cut outs or dings...

http://www.offroadvw.net/BradForum/2.jpg

I soon fixed that up though

Well

Now I had the body looking just the way I liked it... all messed up .. I thought ... hell I need a pan to match.

I set about building a suitable pan for such a great beast.

Cut a bit hear and there and ended up with this funny looking thing

http://www.offroadvw.net/BradForum/3.JPG

Now the problem I had was that the tyres would sit to far under the now widened sides. No probs I has some scrap steel lying around so I just welded up some big ass wheel spacers. These should get them out there...

Then one dark night when the spy's were not around to see what was being born it rolled quitely out of the shed and onto the trailer. The trusty old kombi then delivered it to another hiding place ......

The project continues.......

Many moons later it may reappear with an additional 7" of wheel travel and even more toys ........ mmm power........

But everyone knows before you can go fast you need to stop well and have a big ass Roll Cage. Those that have been driving with me will appreciate why I have spent so many hours intergrating everything into what I consider to be safe enough for my liking ....

Now where did I put those front braces and frame head support bars.........

Now I usually run all terrain tyres but hell with 200hp plus I reckon I can turn the mudders just this once........

How hard is it to get it all approved?? I was just wondering about those custome trailing arms. Very nice. I didn't think you could just do that. Is it difficult to get them approved. Or is it just Manxes that this can be done on becasue their manufacturing details are so flexible. I'm lovin it.

it is all a mater or prospective. I have never said they are approved and I have never said they are not.

We will consider approval a taboo subject and one I am not going to cover on a public forum

Buggy on !!!!!!!
