High Petrol Prices - What can ya do??
Got this in the email today. Lucky I filled up today
Quote:
"MAY 26 is NO PETROL WEDNESDAY. Join the one day nationwide boycott and
help give the message that we strongly oppose the current and on going
increase in the price of PETROL. Buy FUEL today, Thursday or any other
day but not Wednesday. Pass this on to family and friends. Thanks for your
help! More below...
IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN AUSTRALIA DID NOT PURCHASE A
DROP OF PETROL FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES
WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.
AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER
4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.
THEREFORE MAY 26TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR ARSE DAY
AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF PETROL THAT
DAY.
THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY
PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.
WAITING ON THIS ADMINSTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT
GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES
THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?
REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF PETROL GOING UP BUT AT
THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING
COMPANIES
ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT
IS
SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES
ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE
WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.
SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU
KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE MAY 26TH A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF
AUSTRALIA SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

I think this is a great idea and we should all take affirmative action instead of just hanging back and letting it happen.
I for one will not be getting any gas tommorow and will be forwarding this to every one I know.

Its a shame that around 50% of the price on petrol is tax and if they lower the tax on fuel they will probably just make rego more expensive or up
taxes elsewhere! Damn to the tax man, damn them all!!!! They have us by the balls and are not affraid to squeez :puke

whilst today it would look like a ruin on the books, tomorrow would look like a stunning success as everyone rushed for the bowsers!!!! the motto
being that we would still purchase the same amount of fuel unless we all did'nt drive today!!!! all we would be doing is giving the greedy ol'
CEO's a great big belly laugh as they clapped their greasy little mits at the thought of lemmings attempting to buck the system without the giving
the plan of attack some thought............so we all have to walk to work today!!!!!! or use the train!!!!! |

okay then, we pledge not to make any petrol today...... its your choice people !
I work as a maintenance engineer at western australia's only oil refinery. That 4.8 Billion dollar a day profit figure is bullshit with a capital B.
Australia wide, BP made around about $300 million AU profit last year. Thats both refineries (WA and QLD), marketing to industrial customers and every
single BP retail outlet in Australia. These figures are available from the web on BP's site, so if you think I'm bullshitting, check for
yourself.
Thats a little less than a million a day. There are 4 oil refiners in Australia - ExxonMobil, BP, Caltex and Shell. They dont make any more money than
we do (give or take around 10%, we are all pretty similar). Thats still only about $1.2Billion profit in a year. Add the independants (ie Gull,
Liberty etc) and you might scrape together another few hundred million. Still nowhere near 4.8 billion a day.
Whoever wrote that chain mail got it kind of right - if no petrol moved in Australia for a day, it would upset the supply chain a bit, as with any
logistic exercise of that size. However, I know for a fact that we have enough tankage to cope with no exports for a day or two, and I expect everyone
else does too. I'm not trying to be say dont vote with your feet - do, its the only way to influence things. Just be realistic with your
expectations. You will probably make more difference buying at the cheapest station than not buying at all.
Finally, consider this : Oil prices are around the $40US a barrel mark right now. They have been as low as $28US a barrel in the last year. Thats
about a %60 increase in the price we have to pay for our oil. The petrol price has typically risen (well in Perth anyways) from around the high 80c
mark to the low 100c mark - give or take, around a 25% increase.
Now dont get me wrong - oil companies make what seems to be a crap load of money, but in the whole scheme of things, we have to spend a shitload of
money to make it too - our refinery here runs a maximum of 140,000 barrels of oil a day. (140,000 x 365 = 51.1 million barrels of oil a year, = $2.05
Billion US just in oil). Compare to this, we made around the $100 million US profit mark last year - this is around a 5% profit margin for the
refinery. Places like retravision / harvey norman operate on 30% - 70% profit margin on their goods.
Finally, now that I have got all of you thinking I'm a bastard, one last thing - Australia still has around the second cheapest petrol prices in the
world, behind the US. In the UK, petrol regularly hits around the $2 a liter mark.
Its just one of those things in life I guess - at least thats how I treat it. Vote with your feet people, and keep the pressure on, as without it,
things like the ACCC would have nothing to help them - politics controls the taxes, and the public opinion controls politics eventually.
Cheers

Hate to tell you guys.
Buy doing this it won't make a difference to the servo's.
At the moment the next servo you drive past is making a huge loss in the fuel at the moment.
Take our site at the moment.
We have a site on either side of the road before you hit a freeway. At the moment we are paying $113.7 for the fuel.
We are selling it to you the customers for $101.9.
If the servo's want to get narky about anything you would be well over the 120.9 at the moment.
so get over your little protests and get on with your life.
I'm the same as you guys. i don't get any fuel discounts or anything. i just pay the pump price like everyone else.
everyone is catching the unfair disease of the old Pentioners.
Everything is unfair for them

we could just smoke and fly where ever we wanted.

i think a real protest would be to walk or ride a pushy for 2 days a week. i think if you stopped buying petrol 1 day only prolongs the time when you
need to buy fuel next, especially if you are using fuel on those days.

Yeah! Right on Matt! Farcical democracy, choose A or A, there is no other choice. Hahah!
And you know what, just 'cause our economy is supposedly so reliant on fuel (oil), is it right that we complain about increasing oil price? I think,
great! More motivation to develop cleaner alternatives (seems like the only thing that can be a motivation these days is money! Grrr!)
I think rustybus has the right idea:

ummm no. you can't smoke Hemp. We'll you can but you will not get any effect whatsoever from it. Hemp has such low THC levels that to get somewhat
high you would need to smoke a couple of tons of the stuff and get severe diarrhoea.
Extract from: "Hemp and Marijuana: Myths and Realities" By David P. West
http://naihc.org/hemp_information/content/hemp.mj.html
[Myth: Smoking industrial hemp gets a person high.
Reality: The THC levels in industrial hemp are so low that no one could get high from smoking it. Moreover, hemp contains a relatively high percentage
of another cannabinoid, CBD, that actually blocks the marijuana high. Hemp, it turns out, is not only not marijuana; it could be called
"antimarijuana." ]
However you can use the Hemp plant to produce ethanol and many many other products.

Methods to reduce fuel consumption:
Combine trips as much as possible - ie shop once per week
Car pool
Tune your car
Economical driving tips:
* Drive 5 km/h under the speed limit
* Accelerate to your desired speed relatively quickly, upshifting at 2500 rpm or thereabouts every time. The aim is to get to top gear quickly without
lugging. Top gear is the most fuel efficient gear
* Keep a steady accelerator (or fit cruise control = 10% fuel savings)
* When coming up to stale green lights or reds, let off the accelerator and cruise up to them - don't brake unless you have to. Clutch in at the last
second
* Try to avoid heavy accelerator positions - do you really need to do the speed limit up hills?
* Most of us will be pretty good at this already, but try to conserve your momentum - don't brake overly much except when it's required.
For those of you with non-stock engines, consider the use of modern fuel injection and fully electronic ignition (=ie no dizzy). You'll not only burn
around 15% less fuel, the engine will be more powerful and have 50+% fewer emissions.

Boozer, nice one. You've been studying your Stash! I think it's a good thing you can't smoke hemp to get high, as some gimboids would be walking
around with no sleeves cause they were stinging for some of the green goodness. BTW people I don't really smoke, but i like hemp clothes etc. (But if you want any let me know) just kidding
|
So you wear them frenzix? My dad has a hemp shirt says it is extremely comfortable. He doesnt smoke either. If i am running low on petrol i remember

My contribution: I'm combining my 'trips' at every party, I drive 5kph under the autobahn limit always, I upshift at 7,500rpm, I use a brick for
cruise control, I don't stop at red lights, and I speed up hills to maintain momentum. Also I'm pulling your leg, although I've tried these things
at one time or another....:thumb
