keys and locks
New dub the other day , unfortunatly she has a few probs.
Well my problem is that the keys only work for turning the car on and not in the locks.. Is this normal? and if so how would I go about getting a key
cut that will be able to lock/unlock the doors?
Second problem is, is that the passenger side locking system is completly stuffed... There is no button on the inside (up the top for
locking/unlocking) and the inside appears to be all pulled apart. The locking barrel even just comes out of the door.
how would I fix the passenger side Lock? Or atleast is there any meterial around that I could look at, that will have details on how the locks work so
I can have a crack at it? Also any helpful suggestions on the topic of the keys would also be very much appreciated
Thxya all.

I know I was just able to take a lock to the lock smiths and he had a tool make a key from scratch. You best bet woud be to talk to the local lock
smith and vw store, he may be able to reset all the locks to the same and make a new key? or may have to by new locks from a vw shop.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
Go hard or go home!!!!

Take the door locks and the ignition key to a Locksmith and he can rekey them for you, the door locking mechanism may be stuffed, but should be fairly
easy to replace if its a late model beetle...
Where are you located?

hmmm, yes, i have problems with locks as well...
the mechanisms work (i think) , well the drivers door is fine and locks with a key.
passenger door wont lock with key but the button works
rear door only locks when it "feels like it", ie, i have to turn the key, pray to the gods of vw locking mechanisms, and sometimes it might work,
sometimes it doesnt.
its really very annoying.
what are my options?
take out the lock and take it to a locksmith?
try and pull a lock off someone's t3 ? (hint hint)
its not a crisis situation (reverend's prob sounds pretty bad)
its just mainly annoying...........
any ideas? |

its a 1970 1500 model and she goes like the clakkers.
Im in Albany WA. So its a little hard to get parts (hidden down in the wettest / coldest part of the world)
anyway i think ill take the lock barrel out of the passenger sicde door down to a locky since it comes out so easily...
