Why do you drive a VW?
There are so many variations of custom styles, engine sizes and theories, but why do you choose to drive a VW?
Tell your story. Briefly, I was atracted to the humble beetle when I was about 12 years old, and back then it was purley the shape and simplicity of
the car. Nearly 20 years later I'm a full on petrol head building my own engines with help at times and finally have a nice ride(well I think it is
anyway).
So why do you drive a VW?

I always wanted one, even when I was a little girl.
Bugs to me then, were always small & cute...a real girls car.
I swore when I got my licence I would get one.
I didn't get my licence til late in life, so now I own one...
Then I saw a splitty.....had to have one of those too.
Now I have both.
A 61 bug & a 58 (soon to be resto'd) splitty.
Luv my VW's ......thats my addiction.

Super Beetle then a one owner 1970 type 3 variant which I owned for about 6-7 years then I went to Mitsubishi vehicles until I bought this semi auto
Beetle.. which is close to being totally restored... when I finish it, it will be...

Yes theres nothing like a gathering of beetles cruising down the road together, the shapes and the sound always gets looks and admiration from all
walks of life from the very young to the old who have seen them develop through the years.

I always kinda liked VW's, but my ex wife couldnt drive a manual. After toying with a type 3 in appaling condition, I decided our second car should
be newer. I found a little silver Mk1 for sale for $800 cos its wheels (trispoke alloys) had been nicked. I snapped it up and put some Mk3 wheels on
it. On the first drive with borrowed 13" oddment tyres to get it to the tyre shop, I was captivated by the concept that driving a car could be
involving. The Mk1 ignited the driver in me because of its nimble abilities in the performance and handling departments. Funny thing was, we bought it
so she could learn to drive a manual, and I could take the Magna wagon for gigs and travelling. After we bought it, she drove it twice. I wouldnt let
her in it. Now I have had 4 Golfs, culminating with my latest, a genuine european spec Mk2 GTI 2 door, and my gf has now had a 76 Golf, 87 Jetta and a
95 Vento. She drove one initially cos of me, but having driven other cars when we were looking at the Vento, she hasnt looked back!!!

Cann't afford a Porsche!
Actually, the GF bought my fasty with the intention of using it as a run about instead of driving the kombi everywhere. I loaned her half the money
to buy it and until she paid me back I got to drive it. The first time I saw it I was like WTF is that purple heap of crap!
She eventually decided she couldn't afford to run two cars, which was fortunate for me as by then I'd fallen for my purple misterss. I bought out
her share and we've been together ever since. It was fate!

Forgot to mention that you can flat load about 30 bodies into a Kombi. Good for the odd serial killing spree or orgy.

I drive a VW because it beats riding the bus any day.
Truthfully the reason I was attracted to owning a Beetle was because it is an affordable means of transport, while also being mechanically quite
simple which means (unlike more modern computer controlled cars) I could tackle fairly big jobs at home. I bought mine both for driving and for the
chance to learn about cars mechanically.
Fortunately it turned out to be a very cool car which despite (or perhaps because of) having a massive 44hp and a knackered gearbox, is actually
really good fun to drive.
And even though all of my friends have "better" cars, I know that mine is the only classic car .

I just love the look of early vw's , so classy. My folks have had so many vw's. They had the 3rd ever Oval in England!!!!! Many KG's and now mum
has a scirrocco storm , sister has a g40 polo and dad has a vr6 golf and he's 71 !!!
My first car was a beetle as is now! Had alot of classic cars in between but always returned to the dak -dak! My 67 is a dream come true (one owner ,
never welded etc etc) and i'm going to do everything to it i have ever wanted to but didn't have the money. Big stroker motor project is started ,
it's going to get the lot! Everytime i drive it i get a buzz , thats why an aircooled vw is for me! Love um!
Unlike any other car it appeals to so many and the vw crowd are normally a friendly bunch of folk. The vw scene in England back in the 80's 90's ,
BugJam etc etc were just the best times of my life , honestly. Wild times!
Vw's , buy one !

No computers, The technology is not replaced every 2 years, well put together. Not many 40-50 year old cars out there that you can drive every day,
and I LOVE them. They look like they have personality, or they can have a personality reflected on them.

3 words; Simplicity, reliability & versatility.
I run 8 seats most of the time, but only takes 15 minutes to strip it out & load it for the tip.
I've limped home on 2 cylinders(do that with any other motor)
& there is not much I can't fix myself.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.

I have always loved the look of beetles, but have never owned one.
I have no idea why, but one day my husband started to go on about Kombis....Go on and on and on.... Every where we went, he'd point one out
"Look..there's a Kombi!!!"
Yeah. So ? Ugly square box, as far as I could see
It wasn't until he said " You know Deb, if we get a Kombi we could go travelling on weekends ", that I thought.. mmm... Not a bad idea! And then,
of course, when we started seriously looking and then found our first Kombi, it was love at first sight.
Now, we're onto our second Kombi and there's no way we'd ever be without it...just LOVE it.
In fact I could safely say that I love my Kombi as much as I love my toy poodle (and any poodle owners out there would now how much that is ) Well, nearly as much, anyway...

C'mon Heather - you just haven't lived till you've Kombi-ed! It's simply a devine experience pet.
(Wow - never used the word "pet" before to describe someone - am I getting old, or is something small, hairy and brainless the best description for
Heather???)
Good point about the cruisin' speed. My top speed in Germany was 280k's on the Autobahn. I was a real lead foot, and Dubs just don't let me do
that. Consequently, I now enjoy driving a hell of a lot more. Slow's the go!

I initially got a Kombi because I wanted to go travelling. Since, I have really come to _love_ driving the bus. It's so croozy and relaxed. Always
cheers me up.
I told a mate that it was great fun to drive, and he was like 'yeah right, whatever', but he drives a VK and is from Frangga.
