Australian VW magazines
I am wondering if you guys still have a VW magzine?? I have seen a mag called Australian VW magazine on ebay but these are early 90's issues and
a search on the web proved unsuccessful! I currently subscribe to UK, US and French VW mags and would love to see whats going on in the Aussie scene
too! So is there a mag you guys have?

I have quite a few past ones, but there is no Australian VW magazine being produced at the current time, that I am aware of.

It is crap, and yes we have a lot of good cars over here. Enthusiasts here seem to develop their own way of doing things because importing stuff is so
expensive.
Unfortunately (for you) I won't be selling any of my magazines, I still enjoy looking through them.
I expect the magazines may have stopped because we have a relatively (when compared to the UK or US) small VW scene over here. It probably wasn't
enough to keep the magazine alive.

Hehehe, so would I!!!
If you're planning a holiday here, make sure you check out when our events are on (either under Club Chat or the Events Calendars) so you get to
meet heaps of us. In fact, when the aussieveedubbers.com t-shirts get into production, buy one so we all recognise you! :thumb

Col loves his mags!!
We do need an Aussie VW mag again, and unless you subscribe OS mags are hard to find. I buy mine from the large newsagencies in the city.
How would a half yearly Aussie VW mag go distributed through VW businesses such as parts suppliers, mechanics shops, clubs or by subscription? Places
where dubbers frequent?
Again it's finding the people with the money and the time to get it together.
Really we would have so much content when you read through our posts and what everyone is up to around OZ, and we do have some very sweet Vee dubbs
here.:rudolf
How about Aussie Vee Dubbers in print bi-yearly? Who has the time to get involved? I think we have the talent here, it's just finding those with
the time and committment :thumb

What about if if you guys started an Internet based mag. I used to read a great one http://www.vwmagazine.com but then the guy just stopped doing them! This way you could get alot of interest before you try
a print version. It would be the best way to advertise it and test the water!
I would be willing to help, I'm no designer or anything tho and as i am here in old blighty I wouldnt have much to imput unless you had a column
called Pommies Point
But if you need help/thoughts just let me know!!
I think also now that everyone is more aware of other scenes in different countries that it could be a success! I know of people over here that
subscribe to french, german and Japanese VW magazines but they cant even speak one word of a foreign language!! They just want to see whats going on
and like the pretty pictures so as the aussie mag would be in English
then bingo!!

I tried starting up a VW mag here but it's not easy when you're one person with limited finances and only two or three people will help out
with pics and details of their cars. I agree that there are a lot of cars here that deserve to be featured for all to perve at and get ideas and
motivation from, but I found you'd have to fly all over the place tracking these people down to take some photos and try and get some details out
of them.
It would also have to be sold overseas to some extent if a larger print run was going to work. I could have done a smaller run and sold through
subscription, but putting it together was going to be virtually impossible with little or no help.
Anyway, I have to support a young family, so I've got to be doing something that pulls in the dollars, not saps every cent until maybe producing
money down the track.
I've been asked to edit and publish another mag on the side, so at least I'll be helping to get something VW related out to people...

The small size of the VW enthusiast market in Australia means that a 'VW only' magazine is uneconomical. It has been tried several times,
and sadly each time it hasn't worked.
There is a summary of all the Australian VW magazines at:
http://www.clubvw.org.au/sorting_the_australian_vw_magazi.htm
The best you can do is join a large VW Club. The big clubs put out excellent local magazines each month. I'm biased, but I think Zeitschrift is
by far the best.

BUT surely an internet mag coud work? The costs would be relatively little and now that the online VW community is so large the interest should be
good!

On Line magazine
If anyone out there wants to publish a magazine and trial it online I am more than happy to donate them the space to do it.
In fact I will even help them out if they like. Maybe as a trial everyone who is interested in getting their VW's featured can post their details
here.
We could even use the url http://www.magazine.aussieveedubbers.com or
similiar and tie it in with teh forum to help with getting coverage.
SO any voluteers ???? |

never really done any mag work... but...
i was actually thinking of stating a bi-annual mag, and anyone that wants it subscribes over the net.. the only way to get it would be over the net..
and it has features and stuff from each event/cruise from the previous half year...
anyhow i'd be more than happy to offer my services, i'll even do the mag!
i'm up for it.
let me know.

alrighty then...
howzabout i get some of the old mags together and i'll get bak to you with what i need from everyone .. i think it'd be good if people could
maybe write their own features on their car and put them in as well... that way it's less travelling.
plus if it gets big enough, advertising money could be put back into aussieveedubbers kitty!
but that's later...
i look forward to working with y'all

Too hard basket
Been there done that vdub2c... Did you read my message above? You can't rely on people to take their own photos and write their own stories, it
just never happens. Nothing against Veedubbers really, thry're just too busy out playing with their cars...

sorry car vet only just read your post....
i totally agree that many veedubbers are let's say "too busy playing with their cars" and it probably will be hard to do...
but as you said you have a young family to look after... me on the other hand am a 21 year old, that does nothing but work full time and goes out on
friday saturday night (pretty sad huh) and seeing as i just broke up with the woman, i have ample time to do anything, i want!
i'm willing to give it a shot, even if it doesn't work out... i may as well give it a go. plus now that we have this forum it's alot
easier to co-ordinate alot of the people around the country which i reckon is great.
i'm willing to try if everyone else is.
as big kev would say: "I'm Fat!" no sorry, that's not it... it's "I'm Excited!" :P

Aussie VW Magazines..... We Need One!!!
Yes I have bought just about every Australian VW magazine I have seen ... sometimes twice... by accident... as there was NO Date on some
publoications so they could be distributed at any time until supplies were exhausted... Which was about the middle of the year... 2 Mags for the price
of one... Somone had a go at a newpaper type paper magazine but it wasn't a success... But I believe Bi Yearly to start with as there are many
New VW owners out there that don't know where to take their VWs for service or Parts etc... We DO NEED Something.... whether Paper or
Electronic..... I am willing to write a couple of short articles on 4 Beetles.. I have helped restore... with color pics too... It seems that many VW
owners don't like to talk about their VWs - face to face is OK... but not written or Emailed etc... OK Someone make the BIG decision and
advertise their email address so I can get in touch with them...
It Won't Happen overnight but it WILL Happen..... Lee

I would love to be the UK correspondant, I can do the photos and reports for UK shows so you see what we d over here, I can also put a few bits
together about UK drag racing, Formula Vee and the Bug Cup.
This would also be a great oppertunity to put something back in to the scene.

ive still got my copy
of an aussie vw mag :bounce i bought it in manly in 1999. it had a silver oval with a pobjoy engine featured, an inspiration for my oval
i attended a few clubveedub sydney meets (i even won a shammy leather)
i reckon if volksworld was to feature one aussie car a month it would do a lot for the scene here and there :alien |
