valve clearances - Help!
Hi guys got a problem.
I have just done the valves first 2 cyl on my 72 kmobi.
The Muir book says I have to rotate my engine counter clockwise 180 to do cyl 3.
But it wong quite go that far without the fanbetl slipping (I have adjusted it as far as tight as I can get it).
I can get it to rotate 180 clockwise - is this the same thing ?
I am concered because doiung that leaves me with valves on cyl 3 with less than .05mm gap!

Fatboy
just checking but you rotate it everytome you dod a cylinder.
You take the cap off and line it up with #1.
Check the both valves are close. Adjust #1 clyinder.
Rotate 180 degrees and do #2.
Rotate 180 degrees and do #3.
Rotate 180 degrees and do #4.
the reason it is slipping is compression.
If you just CANT get it to turn take out the spark plugs

The reason they say to turn back 180 degrees is to stay on the same side. ie: do No.1 then turn back to do No.2. Then you can put the tappet cover
back on and jack up the other side to do 3 & 4.
The other check you can do to make sure you are on the right cylinder is to check the companion cylinder is on the rock. ie: if you are on No.1 cyl
and you rock the crankshaft back and forth the inlet & exhaust valves will move in & out.
No.1 & 3 are companion cylinders
N0.2 & 4 are companion cylinders
Happy adjusting

The firing order is 1432
So if you start at No. 1 then rotate 180 counter clockwise you end up at No.2
If you rotate 180 clockwise you end up at No. 4
