Complete rewire

hey guys just wondering if anyone can shed some light on how big a job it is to completely rewire a bug. I think i want to do this but have absolutely no auto electrical experience but i idon't mind going hands on if there are comprehensive guides or instructions available.I have seen bugs with what looks like custom looms etc is it possible to buy a kit or to get a wiring diagram and go to jaycar and get it parted out.
Is it a matter of simply following a diagram or much more involved.
I think my projects is pretty ordinary so i might as well renew if its not a mammoth task. Thanks David

For me electrical isnt 2 hard, where all the wires go in a beetle, all the wires have to be threaded through grommets, holes etc through the body/chassis. If you are going to do a total rewire, i think you would be best off stripping the whole body so you can do it easier, Classic vee dub and places like that have complete wiring looms for them with full instructions, go for that option if you can get a loom

its not a difficult task... just a time consuming one... i have seen wiring looms available in wcm books etc... but you could easily make one yourself by using individual wires (building wire). Important to take note of where the wires go through the bodywork and replace grommets and rubber seals where possible. Following the wiring diagram is all you need to do... though you may want to draw your own of what is coming out before you just strip it... i am doing this with my 65 beetle and have found some things that are not wired the way the manual says they should be. I am yet to source the coloured building wire to make my own loom, problem is knowing how much of it you need, and how many different colours... especially with the different tracer colours etc.
