Yeah, I check the URL every so often as well but unfortunatly I think that Dave is right. Until you try to start a club, mag etc you dont realise just
how hard it is. Once again, unfortunately, a lot of people want to be "in" your club or "buy" your mag. but very limited people
can join you in making it a success. If you can get the right combination of people together, then I think thats when you'll start to see the
fruits of your labour.

when car vet was attempting a cool looking mag it seemed no one was interested to help. I would have loved to help but i figured i knew too little and
that all the old boys would already be doing it. i was wrong and as a rebound effect i'll put my hand up for anything from now on..I think the
downfall of all the new tech. is the lack of basic communication, the simple things are overlooked

One person can't do it on a small budget without a lot of cooperation from absolutely everyone associated with the content.
If someone has the finances to trip around Australia and track down cars and owners, take photos and write the stories up from limited info, then go
for it. It will take a few people and lots of effort to put a mag together even quarterly, going on my recent experience.
There is a market for the finished product though...

I don't know if we could pull off a mag - but it would be cool if we could pool our resources and each interview and photograph choice rides in
our particular areas and web publish them. Provide prises for the best articles - most professional pics and choice rides. I knwo time isn't free
- and the idea would be for it to pay for itself but before you can market it do a trial and put a hit counter on and see how many have a read at the
first edition so you can market it to advertisers. Not as good as a paper version I know - I'd live to have glossy pages once again but with a
depleting reader base it's too hit and miss.
I think The Car Vet had the right idea by it being subscriber only. I was tempted to offer to write. With Uni assignments looming at the time I though
it prudent to not overload myself. Again I regret not offering. My limited experience with cars would have showed in the article but the idea is to
share you find with others and allow them to enjoy the read.
I think a healthy web site sould be developed which would profit an organiser - or committee with advertising and prizes - gifts - etc for journalists
who submit their finds / vehicles. With the advent of Email, Digital Cameras, and home desktop publishing it would have to spark some interest from
readers who love their VW's and thirst for knowledge on go fast / tips / cruisers and project triumphs.

I am mates with Lex who published VW scene way back when....as stated above it is very time consuming to run a mag (especially practically alone), and
Lex unfortunately doesn't have the time currently due to day to day work. It would be great to see another mag on the stands one day.
Steve, I emailed you info on my car and some preliminary pics (after which Lex actually took some proper pics on slides instead of prints for better
clarity) - didn't get any replies to a few of my emails. Sorry the mag didn't come to fruition, but would have been nice to have got a
reply. Anyway, no dramas, best of luck if you try to get it up and running again, I'm more than happy to provide pics/info if needed although I
may be selling my car soon!

well
I think you will find there was a few people who sent Steve info, I also think you will find that he enthusiasm was stemed due to the fact that the
response was not a big as he expected.
I don't think anythig has changed. I offered up webspace in a recent post on this topic and offered to put up info and pictures for people,
response was ZERO so I guess when push comes to shove no one really wants to do bugger all.
Much easier to sit back and dream...
The offer still stands though if anyone wants to get their car on the www just send me the info and the pictures, seperately, do not send it all in a
word doc for exmple, send me the info in word by all means but send the images as jpegs or whatever.. |

Thanks Brad, I know it would be a mammoth task and I take my hat off to Steve for giving it a go. Hopefully we can see something come up soon!
I'll send you some info and pics, it would be cool to see my car on the net. It is also going up for sale so if you know anyone that could be
interested, give me a yell!
Cheers

I might even take up that offer to Brad if you don't mind. I know that Dog-O-War is in the Baja Register but that getting a bit dated now. Might
Send you and Wes a few updated pics and some text to go with them.
Cheers.

Thanks Brad, the projects include a mild custom 63 beetle which I originally intended to do a quick resto and sell, but now will do a body off + the
2L type IV I am building. Polished Fuchs (fronts narrowed to 4.5in).
Secondly is my 64 double door panel which will receive my reverse rotation corvair engine, IRS rear end, possibly 4 wheels discs and 17in wheels
(highly dependent on funds though!!).
Beetle first, then bus....maybe manx in the future though!
