i cant seem to stop hot air from coming out of the vents under the windscreen
there is like a milloin degrees coming out if i have been driving a while
at the moment they are just blocked with a bit of foam but that just makes it come out all the cracks in the tubes under the dash

The obvious one is to check the cables operating the heater flaps move freely, also check the heater flaps themselves (the directional flap after the
heat exchanger before the hot air enters the car) fully close.
If that's OK they may be getting old and the asbestos type material on the flap which it seals on when closed may have fallen appart. In which
case it is easiest to block the heater pipe just after the heater flap.
Good luck.

Your Type 3 should have 2 levers besides the handbake.
the one closest to drive is the main heater and operates the flaps on the engine.
the one on the pass side operstes the heater flaps in the rear pass area and only works when the main one is pulled on.
they should be pushed down towards the tunnel to turn them OFF
If this fails with the heat then something is STUCK.
