Thanks for all the good comments!
The other Bug in the pic drove in to the back of someone the day before while posing for a TV camera! He was well gutted but I'm sure that it was
only the bonnet that was fooked.
Bug Jam get about 30,000 people there i think! Well worth the trip!

A bit of a better shot of the car.

The chassis and the body have been fully strenghten like a cab would. There is no body movement at all driving with the top off. I didn't carry out
the work myself, it was done by a company in the UK called Thump! Thump! in 1991!!
One with the roof on. . .

Does it Leak?
No it doesn't leak! The top seals really well with no leaks or wind noise. If I drive with the top off at about 60-70mph there is very little wind
noise.
It was stiffened up using Cabrio Strenghten supports underneath. There is no body roll or flexing and the doors shut ok
Next to be fitted are the Targa bumpers!

It`s a `74 with early guards fitted, note the size of the rear side windows, much larger than a `64.
So JsVW, is this the one that used to be red, does it have the TARGA script under the back window??
I moved over here a few years ago, absolutely love the place but Bug Jam still calls me very July, it`s the one thing that would probably see me move
back.

Its not the red Targa bug that you mention. Thats just finished getting restored now and will make its debuet early in 2005, with some more mods.
Its will look fantastic, I've seen some pics!
My bug is the third Targa to be made and as the rear window script says its called 'Mirage'.
It will be getting some more mods during the winter months (UK!) and it will reappear next year.
I'll post some more pics when its done.
And thanks for all the interest guys

Ah yes, I remember "Mirage".
So what was the other Targa? Was that "Lemon Bavois"?
I remember seeing "Targa" with a smashed windscreen on the hard shoulder of the motorway on the way to Bug Jam or Beetle Bash, years ago now!
I had a real crappy `76 1200A Base model, it was one of the ones made of shitty steel, came out of Ireland I think. That had rust almost all the way
along the gutters front to back and holes from the gutters to the side of the rear window.
Aussies don`t know they`re born when it comes to rust repairs!!
Cheers
Gra.

They are not cheap over here!! I paid £650 for a set of four 6J x 15" that came fully polished already.
I know people who have picked up sets for far less tho'
And I've just had to shell out another £60 on some centre caps . . .then there are the tyres . . . it never ends :blah
I love it really!!!
