$800 to $1000 will get you a basic fresh air hood.
good luck, you'll need it

Just painted my split kombi in 2 pac, asked at a few spray shops and they all use 3m masks they cost about $40 for the mask and take 2 organic
filters, I went through 6 filters to paint the bus.
Use gloves and a disposable spray suit, $7.00 from any hardware store.
2 Pac enters your body through eyes so were goggles as well.
Up to you .
Cheers

All the masks I have seen specifically say "not for two pack", even the ones for spray painting. I was of the opinion that two pack required a
fresh air system, like LOWBUG said. However, I am no expert.
Where did you buy your mask 57Kombi and is it specially for two pack? If so do you know the part no? I am interested as I would prefer to use two
pack over other paint types, but have been put off by the safety risks as a fresh air system is too expensive. Cheers for any help.

Purple T3, May I recommed you call Hichem they are in Melbourne,
They make a 2Pack Iso Free Paint, it works real well and has great finish,
Fresh air is required for Isocynate paint,

Thanks for the advice Sky. I have seen the HiChem Iso free paint, but for some reason I was under the impression that it required fancy breathing
apparatus as well. I'll check it out again to make sure.

Why bother
Just do it in Acrylic, I have seen lots of 2K paint jobs with lots of problems, even when done by proffessionals! Acrylic is a lot more forgiving. My
old bug's acrylic paint survived 20 years of staying outside, and still looks OK. You just have to keep the wax on it. Just my observations.

I will try and dig out some old notes from uni about oc health. I did a whole six months on gloves and masks and how they worked and what was suited
to what.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
Go hard or go home!!!!

in simple terms though those little paper masks are a waste of time, they have to many leaks and don't trap small enough particle to be of much use
to anything but corase saw dust or similar. I would suggest at least a good quility catrige filter, suit and gloves.

The mask I used was made specially for 2 pac. It is made by 3M and has 2 organic filters that screw on to the sides.
They are available from most paint & panel supply shops.
I went throgh 3 sets of filters as they just suddenly get harder to breath through.
It might say that you need breathing gear, but I just asked the people who are using it every day.
Just go and ask at any paint shop and see what they use.
I visited 6 paint shops and they all just used the masks.
It might not be the right thing to do, but they didnt have any problems and some had been spraying 5/6 days a week for 20 years.
I dont think I will have any problems as I only painted 1 kombi over 4 days, total time painting would be about 4 hours.
Cheers

MSDS for the 2K Iso free paint,
listen I sort of agree with 57kombi, I had a very breif stint as a Panel beater, they were using 2k with just a shitty respirator, but why risk it?.
your neighbours aren't going to appreciate the smell of paint anyway, by Law Supply stores must only recommend Fresh air systems, I say go the Iso
free stuff, you can get it mixed to certain colours I beleive they wante $90 for 3 litres, hardener for its about $40-50, Dries in a couple of hours,
I have painted my beetle in acrylic and the toughness in the 2K iso paint is much superior,

hey
2 pac isnt "leagally" allowed to be painted in residential areas of NSW anyway i dont think so everything is a risk my dad has been painting the
bottoms of boats etc in 2 pac for the past 6-7 years using what 57 kombi has got and has never had any troubles what so eva!! smoking will kill him
before 2 pac will!!
i agree about those paper masks i wear only one of the when dads painting the car and walk around it checking for thin areas of paint for dad to get
over and when ya get a gust of overspray it becomes hard to breathe!! but i like sniffing fresh paint :duh
my uncle has painted cars for over 30 years in all sorts of paints and DOESNT wear a mask and its killing him know but thats cause he's a heavy
smoker and paints without a mask!!
so for the limited time you actually paint it isnt worth getting a fresh air system etc!!
cheers
rhys
:blush*what i look like after a good wif of fresh 2 pac
it aint just cool its aircool'd
