Think out side the Square you live in.
But there was a nice blue V8 Beetle there, the V8 was in the front. |

Probally the drag car from Queensland.
Yeah the summer nats is some fun. We used to take the VW Beetle down for the burn out comp. The pic was on the front of the Saturday Canberra times
that year,
People couldnt believe that a VW could burn out til it blew the tyres.

The Beetle was dark blue, I will post a photo when I get them developed.
As for the new Fords, I looked at one with a 5.4 Ltr engine the only thing wrong with it is I cant afford it. |

Fords Fords Fords ... If it wasn't for Henry's anti-semitism and support for Germany we prolly would never have had the VW. What he gave to
the German industrial-military complex funded the start of many projects that give us machines and companies we use today.
Personally, the Ford Mercury, when given a healthy chop is one of the most desirable cars around ... or a '32 3 Window ... lol

Nope that was a Chev.
3000HP 27 litre twin supercharged Merlin engine out of a Mustang fighter...
Built by Rod Hadfield of Castlemaine Rod Shop. Good feature in Cruzin mag about all that had to be done to get it street registered.

I think the focus now is on topless cars now Rhys. Even a wet t-shirt would be going to far now days.
I didn't think I would but I like the Drag Bug. Not sure if it was better looking before or after. Probably before as the paint job looked heaps
better than the blue.
Would have like to have gone to the Nats too. I'll get there one day. Would be a lot of fun. Topless or not.

*amazer laughs his arse off at the thought of someone buying an XR6/8*
All that money for something that a base commodore V8 gives a whooping to and for just over 40K. Hopefully Ford have developed window rubbers that
last longer than 4 years like my EF's.

I've owned 2 fords and both had serious problems.
First one (even if it was a rebadged mazda) was a telstar that had serious rust problems after just 6 years. Fortunately my sister rolled it down an
embankment so I collected insurance money.
2nd one was an EF Falcon. Within 5 years I had to:
replace brake light switch. Cost $75.
replace 2 central locking motors.
replace cracked air con condensor + regas.
paint on wipers began to chip off.
all window rubbers started to perish. The top shiny layer just dissappeared, leaving rough horrible stuff.
I will admit that neither of these cars were garaged, but I strongly believe that an Australian made car should be durable enough to sit under aussie
sun for 5 years. If my west coast metric rubbers can last, I expect Ford rubbers to last at least as well.
The engine was very harsh when revving above maybe 3500. It rarely got to rev that high, only when it kicksdown overtaking, but still I think redline
was 5500. Scarey!
Its rear suspension was very soggy. You actually steered twice. Once for the front end and then corrected it again once the back end moved over.
Kombi tows a lot better.
It did have a nice cruising ride and sweet auto gearbox though.
Im looking for a falcon front end coupled with a holden rear end with a magna 3.5 V6. You seen one around?

I bought the EF cos I know people who work for holden and they tell me stories of warranty claims! And also because my experience in taxis told me
that Falcons were better than Commodores. I've decided now that they are as bad as each other.
And aaanyway... back to summernats... i've only been once. It was the last year of the GOOD summernats with street cruises n stuff. The year the
morons ripped out traffic lights and ruined it. You telling me there's not much of a girlie scene at the nats now? I took 2 rolls of film of
girls and only 1 of cars when I went. No wonder I dont go there. And I thought it was all about the rednecks.

Ahh yes, I remember going when I was only 17 back in 1990. Went with some mates, one of whom had just got his licence and a TX Gemini Coupe.
We didn't drink much. I had a video camera with me. I looked at the footage the other day, and my wife was shocked to see at least a couple of
dozen 'perve shots' with the video camera happening.
Hey I was only 17.
I was in heaven 'Blowers, Burnouts & Boobs.

street cruisin mmmmm. Driving around with the sliding door open.
Its really surprising how many drunk girls you can get in a kombi at one time. Giving them a lift was as far as I achieved but damn it was fun. Bad
part was that when guys saw a kombi full of drunk girls they tried getting in too. And police didnt worry cos back then it was all in fun. Might see
if I can dig out some pics.
