Who will be at Nambucca this August??

Are YOU going to Nambucca's VOLKSWAGEN SPECTACULAR on the first Weekend in August ? For those that haven't been before... IMHO .. this is AUSTRALIA's LARGEST GATHERING of VOLKSWAGENS... Will Your VW be one of those Filling the Main Street of Nambucca ? on Saturday Morning... don't try to get in there in Your Honda etc... VWs ONLY Sorry... If My 68AutoBeetle isn't ready by then.... I'll be the person wearing the Balaclava .. on 2nd thoughts , I had better leave the Balaclava at home... they tend to shoot people wearing balaclavas these days...

Vallar Park is about 6 to 7 hours north of Sydney with stops just below Coffs Harbour.

Its a Caravan Camping park.... the event has been going since 1984 and its on every 2nd year nowdays on the first weekend in August.
theres HEAPS of camping spaces. so dont panic.

you have to book with Donna Pell, i will post details in the comming events calendar next week.

No Dave, it was Bob. I don't know of a Max Ellis around here.

He was a founding member of the Nambucca VW Club along with the Pells.

You would probably remember his orange vanagon, it had a "Nambucca VW Club" bra on it. I think there is a pic of it in the general chat section under "VW family from way back"

"Nambucca" or VW Spectacular is an extended weekend affair. The diehards get there in the days prior to the weekend. The action centre's around Valla Beach Resort/Valla Park which is about 5 minutes north of nambucca heads and .. guessing 45 minutes south of coffs harbour.

Friday is the "I remember you from last time", catch up with VW friends from interstate & the forum , BS talking day.

Saturday morning all the cars line up and cruise from Valla Park and all park in the main street of Nambucca Heads which is closed off for the occasion. There's always more than 400 cars and its great to watch and even better to be in. Pity you cant do both. At 12 we leave Nambucca and either head back to Valla Park, or go to Chris Piggotts Racetrack, which is normally a go kart track but once every two years is home to crazy people in VW's and the odd "other".

Saturday night is a drinkathon for most people. At the park they have some kind of dress up theme, meal, and charity auction. The auction can be entertaining too as drunk people bid $50 for a teacup or $200 for something onsale in the trades hall for $75. When I was president of Club VW Illawarra we bought a lamp shade for $400!

Sunday is hangover day, you curse donna on the PA calling people to the show area when you are trying to rest. All the VW's park on the lawn for show and judging.

Theres always something happening at the park. rescue team demos, swap meet, dealer displays, kids colouring competitions, motorkhana etc.

Racing is on throughout weekend. I think last time there was practice friday, racing saturday and sunday.

There's always something to do. If you have non VW spouse/children you can go look at fruit bats in trees, visit hippy bellingen, walk on the beach, big banana.

I cant imagine being a VW enthusiast and NOT going to nambucca. Once you go, you will regret missing all the previous years.

There's plenty of camping sites, more than needed I spose, but cabin accomodation is limited and will book out.

I hope I get paid for this ad!

Dave

I'm guessing you could be thinking about Max Bryen, he was also a club member in the early days. He was the rotund one.

I've always read about this event in Aussie VW magazines, but don't get them until a couple of months after the event. I'm taking at least three days off either side of that weekend. I'll be leaving Wednesday and taking an easy cruise, hoping to be there by Friday lunchtime - I won't be hurrying though. I'll be cruising with Jay, and hopefully Jen. Dean, were you planning on joining us?

We'd be happy to have anyone else along for the cruise. BYO UHF radios if you have them. :thumb
