mid-engine flat6 kombi ute?
just oyin with a crazy idea, looking at all the empty space under a kombi ute, how cool would it be to chop out the torsionbars and part of the flor
and fit flat6 subi engine along with matching gearbox etc? if you setup the radiator properly it could look completely stock from the outside! how
viable would this sort of project be do you reckon?

This is the mid mount ( trike ) we have just built , sure its a ej22 cost for the enginering $1380.00 and lost of hours .add weld tests and many other
testing on steels
simon has the 33 series in his van over here , should go well but the donks at the rear
coming to the other side ??

back of an automatic transmission?

mmm, just hairbrained cncept really, would be a very long way away if it ever did happen. was just interested in the viability. would never use an
auto gbox t2nut, just not the way i like to drive. basically i just thought it'd be cool to make use of all of that storage space, and as far as i
know you cant 'flip' a subi gearbox to make it run back-to front as would be needed if the engine was in teh normal position, so thought it may be
one way of getting around the problem (not to mention the sleeper factor! )

custom bugs and busses have a really nice twin cab ute with a mid mounted v6 out of a commodore in it and i believe it runs an auto 5 speed out of a
commodore aswell, also indians have that twin cab ute with again a v6 commodore mid mounted and i am told its blown |

but they run a normal box and a very short driveshaft .... well miked cbb bus does, cant remember how the ute was setup..... too young to care bak

A few months ago someone asked questions about midmounting engines in a bus. Troll back through the posts and you will find it.
In it I mentioned a BMW powered and transmissioned bus that I had seen in the UK. Man was it fast. :bounce

What would it do for weight distribution?
I have found loading up the Kombi, they prefer weight over the rear, not the front.
Just my experience.

it can be done, couple of things to think about.
short tailshaft and normal diff lots of unijoint troubles.
kalack(spelling) motors in sydney did it so has Mike at CBB it's in the grey ute also in the stretch kombi injected 5L, as for Kimm at indian his is
a supercharged V6 out of a commodere but it's mounted in the standard position i was consiedring this for a future project.
diff set up would include an irs out of a newish commodore.
you could build one tuff motor, would sure bypass all the probs encountered with the kombi box.

um, if i was using a big subi engine, wouldnt i be able to use a front-wheel-drive subi gearbox between the rear wheels to get the power to the
ground? that woudl mean none of the driveshaft issues all of you are talking about.

its something i have been looking at also, but along a different route. I once saw a honda city witha worked camira motor and gb, and front suspention
mid mounted. It was a track car only, but bascially they just cut the front towers and everything else out of the camira and weldedit inot the city
and used the roll cage to brace it all in.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

hey this sounds like a cool project. I toyed around with this kind of engine move-around with my split screen pick up but with a 2 litre type 4 motor,
turbocharged. Or a wrx engine. Thought the space where the motor should be would be well used for a radiator and intercooler.

I once used my kombi to pick up a Chrysler 383ci and 727 Torqueflite for my 4x4. The two were still mated together, so we slung them in the back of
the kombi with the fan just behind the front seats and the output shaft just tucking under the rear bench. If a Chrysler big block and 727, complete
with its 19 1/2" extension housing, will fit with room to spare for a driveshaft, then just about anything will!!
Prefer something from a front-wheel-drive? What about an 8 litre V8 from a Cadillac Eldorado?
