Yep Jacks opted for teh instant horsepower... ( not a bad way to go ) but looses the sprit of adventure,,,,

Thanks for the nice comments.
I've had the IDAs sitting around for a while and I just want to try them.
I'll start with 44IDFs because they are already well set up and have nice new match ported manifolds that go with the new heads.
But once the engine is run-in I'll put the IDAs on as a straight back to back swap.
The 44s are running 36mm chokes and the IDAs have 37mm chokes so the main difference will come from the different carb design. Mind you the IDAs might
not be that good for the track since they don't have much of a progression circuit and I think the float bowl spills with high cornering loads.
I won't have a hope in hell of keeping up with Jako in a straight line but I think I can continue to improve the car's corner speed.
But the best modification for next year will come in the form of a driving course. I just did a new tyre launch with some of the driver training
instructors at the Holden Driving Centre in Norwell. Peter Bisley the chief driving instructor talked me around 2 laps of Darlington park (between
Brisbane and the Gold Coast) and that was really interesting. I'm going to learn to drive again.
We're looking at doing Motokanas next year as well as supersprints. Personally I'd like to do Philip Island next year with one of the Victorian
clubs. From what I've heard that's one of the top 10 things to do before you die.

Hi Pete,
I will definately be making room for the Porsche 356 oil filter. However I will be modifying it to use as an oil breather. I'd like to have a chat
with you about this. I'll need to put a couple of extra fittings in it.
The engine is being detailed again. I'm ditching all the aftermarket chrome crap and going for something that looks period - 356 style.
As for all the other things to do:
For the front end I have planned to get it real soft, add more negative camber and more suspension travel.
I'm getting rid of the aluminium dash panel with the autometer tacho and putting the original motometer dash back in.
I've also figured out a stealth stereo install that can be removed for racing and doesn't require a single hole to be drilled in the body.
Engine-wise I've got a Webcam and some mini D-port heads from DRD racing in the US.
But most exciting of all - the car is going to get a bath and perhaps a polish. I haven't washed it since before the Porsche Club Weekend Of The Year
in july where we drove throught Snow, did a hillclimb and a supersprint.
Racing should be fun next year. There will certainly be a lot of variety with Jak's WRX powered street car (It's looks awesome -Jak you should be an
engineer), JVLs Oval supertourer, Paul's L-bug which could be powered by anything at this stage, Dieter's car which may have a 2.7 in it and Alex's
oval which will may even be putting out 140+ at the wheels by then. Peter McLeod (as per the start of this email) will also be racing with us with
either his WRX powered speedster or jet powered push bike. I think there may also be a couple of others joining us.
The events are not that competitive to be quite honest. They are more of a celebration of modified beetles and actually trying out all the
modifications that we spend hours doing. It's all about improving your lap times each year and watching the speedo go back around to zero while
you're only in third still.

Yeah that's kinda like what I want to do. I'll have to mount the filter to the left to keep room for the centre-pull throttle linkage. I'd rather
paint the filter in orange like one I've seen on here recently. Say no to chrome is my new engine bay philosophy (How ridiculous does that sound?). I
even bought a black ignition coil.

I'd say you'll have a distinct advantage over Jak in Motokanas, especially after the driver training.
I watched a fellow take his wrx around the same course he'd just driven in his stock 1302 beetle (motokana) and he wasn't any quicker. Was a heap
more exciting to watch though as he over cooked the corners and reularly locked the brakes!!
You car is really inspiring CT, very much an old skool racer with a few hidden tricks and a lot of careful though gone in to its set up.

Jack is a hell of a steerer and really knows his car. I've regularly sat on his arse watching him hold his car right on the limits of adhesion. It
looks like his car is only gripping on 3 wheels and you can see is front wheel steering and counter steering right on the ragged edge.
I want to get some more speed out of my driving style yet, hopefully, keep a safety margin so I don't put my oval into the wall. I always crap myself
when the car goes unintentionally sideways. I've had some heart stopping moments. Even now with the car's handling being "not so evil" I had an
excursion on to the dirt at Wakefield park and I also had a big sideways moment mid corner coming on to the straight at Oran park.
BTW you understand what I'm doing. I'm trying to keep the car stock looking and "old school" in it's moderate modifications.

Jak sent me the DVD of you guys racing, and I agree Jak is very talented when it comes to keeping the car on the track- the in car part of that DVD
has some hair raising moments!
I did a basic race skills driver training a month or so ago, its all about consistancy. Didn't seem to help when I went go karting though, I still
approached the corners badly and with a different line every lap!!!!

Hey CT, looks sweet....your IDA's could be the goods in a straight line, but out of the corners, they may bog a little, but that said, the GT40's
used to some success at a little race called Le MANS!!!! Sprints are so much fun ain't they....I do more of the autokana thing here in Perth, but
pushing my bug around Wannaroo is always a blast and we have some other sprint days here and there.....A bit safer than hillclimbs though....Those
things scare me these days, but maybe I'm just getting old! Sounds like a 'taste' upgrade is in the works with your car too.
Well done, oldschool and minimal is so nice to see....All those billet and chrome cars just don't do it for me....And what about those 'Carrera'
kits!!!!
But I digress....

To race in superspints all you ned is a Level 2S CAMs Licence. To qualify you need to be able to fill out a form and post an envelope.
Your car needs to no obvious signs of wear so it will pass scruitineering. Special items are as follows:
A secure battery
Secondary bonnet srap (boot in aircooled vws)
Second trottle springs
Tow hooks front and rear (new rule I haven't done that yet)
Up to date fire extinguisher mounted with a steel bracket.
Personally you need:
Aust Standards Approved helmet
Wrist to anckle clothing and shoes that are not synthetic (ie not flamable)
Testicles

Very nice, thats cool i have all of teh above, just thought u might need to go to a level 3 lisence as the pics show you guys racing pretty close
together. We are noramlly well seperated when i have done any longer track racing.

Jack and I wait for each other and try to stay close for fun. We never pass unless waved through by the other person. The Porsche club don't seem to
mind because we don't do anything stupid. I wouldn't trust too many people to race that close.
Our cars have always been really close and I hope we don't lose the fun with Jak's conversion. But there's other fun to be had do doubt.
