Parts list for Supercharged VW motor


Hey, a mate of mine would like to know what parts exactly are required to supercharge a T1 engine.

obviously a supercharger is required. but wat one .etc and wat other parts?

If someone could do up a list of the parts required it would be good.

Tubes (to make manifold)
Length Belt
Round Pulley
Long bracket
Short bracket
Large Clamps
Long Bolts
Schmoo

Thats all I used to supercharge my car, although it is not a VW the principles should be similar. I hope I described the parts enough for you.

wat exactly is a schmoo? lol.

thanks for the help. are there any specific bits that are to be used. like. specific belts, pulleys .etc for a t1 motor.

anyone have a pic of a superchaged t1 motor. that would help a lot.

You could look ot the CBB Racing Cranky One. It has had one and now two superchargers. They also supercharged a Type 4 engine for a customer.

The cooling tin for the type one makes it a bit more difficult, but the best way to do it is to have the blower feed into a plenum chamber which then feeds out both sides to the heads.

Depending on the blower used you need to consider the height and depth of the unit to clear the fanhousing.

I wouldn't even bother with a carb set up if you are going to do it, inject it at the same time.

i WOULD inject it. but it is to only be a temporary thing. something i can drive and have fun in for 7-8 months....

because i am going to do a conversion eventually.

any idea wat carby to use?

i know this is only a small supercharger. and can only run 7psi max but end of day it would be going onto a used stock 1600.

if not alex holzl has one that might be for sale if it is working. he said it is a small one off a jap motor that would clean the fanhousing.

That blower probably came off a 700cc subaru or something doesnt look very big, the toyota 1.6 and 2l ones can be gotten from wreckers from $250
Why not look for a second hand DLI kit?

Dick Landy set up... very tall blower kit that sits a nice small blower in the type 1 engine. Forget the decklid tho!

Schmoo :)

When I was getting my engine done for the supercharger, the guy who is a good friend of mine was putting the rear main seal in and as it was a two part seal he had to put a drop of flouro green stuff on the ends of the join.

I asked what it was and he said 'Schmoo'

When I said ok but what is it exactly? He shrugged his shoulders and said 'Dunno, it just has to go in there and I call it Schmoo. You just can't build a motor, without Schmoo. You have to use Schmoo somewhere, and this is the spot for Schmoo in your motor'

So I am now thinking this may be the hardest part of the excercise. Where do you need to put the Schmoo?

don't waste your money on something that you will superseed, spend the money on something that will carry over, mabye going injection and setting up the tnkas, pumps, etc. or spend it on suspension



I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
