Wheels

Hi everyone
I am nearing the end of a painfully long rebuild project. The next hurdle is finding wheels to fit! It is a 1960 vw beetle, with flared guards, so I want to fit wider wheels (say 8"), ideally off-set, so as to fill the flares. To make it trickier, it has the original wide 5-stud pattern....
I know you can get 'adaptor plates' but have also heard rumours these are illegal (are they? the only info I can find is that 'spacer plates' are 'not permitted'. An adaptor plate isn't strictly speaking a spacer plate, but I think that may be too fine a distinction...). Any ideas at all would be appreciated.

the big question is do you want to keep the same stud pattern or do you want to change it to have a wider range

It has to stay the same, as redoing the brakes and suspension etc is out of the question.

that limits your options a bit but should still be do able. most of the vw mags are 5.5 or 6 inch. but the empi 8 spokes have an offset that is greater than stock and with wide guards mine sit just inside the guards by an inch

If you want to use wheels and not mags you can get them in almost any size only drawback is most of the widend wheels are 14inch instead of the stock 15inch
