Clutch noise - Where have I gone wrong
I have just swapped my gearbox and installed a new clutch kit, however upon getting it all back to together this morning I find that when I push in
the clutch pedal I get a grinding noise when the pedal is about an inch of the floor. I would equate the noise as trying to put the car in gear
wothout pushing in the clutch. the car is back on ground and I was all readyu to go but looks like I may be pulling it all out again.
Anyone have any ideas what I may have done wrong. I did notice that one of the thrust bearing retainer springs was a bit loose, could this have come
of and the bearing is moving? Is it possible to have over adjusted the clutch to much so it is over pressing the springs? I can't tell if it is
slipping as I can't put it in gear and this would be the normal give away.

Couldn't help myself and have now pulled the motor back out(i'm getting good at this). Can anyone offer any advice as to what I perhaps should look
for now I can see the clutch etc. Would a warped pressure plate cause such a problem?

Make sure you have the correct type of throw out bearing. There is two sorts one for fingure clutch and one for ring clutch.

Problem has been found. Turns out the supplied clutch plate has the wrong size spline in it. Supplier tells me that is nearly impossible but there is
2-3mm slop in the hole as all vw's have the same size spline.. Should have checked on the spline before I put it in. Silly me just checked the new
and old plates were the same size and didn't check the spline.
I bought a "clutch kit" and the thrust bearing and pressure plate are correct just the clutch plate is wrong.
I'll put it down to lesson learnt and hope I can get the car back on the road for day of the vw next weekend.
