These aren't going to fit are they?

I bought a new muffler a while back. At the time I didn't realise I was getting the wrong one. I knew I had to make sure it would fit the manifold heat pipes, but being around all the nice new VW parts made me forget. I took it back a while later, but the guy said that was the only one available, so I kept it.

The muffler looks like it only has room for one of the manifold heat pipes:

where my manifold actually has two per side ('74 Beetle):

Was the guy who sold me this right in that these are the only mufflers you can get new, or are they available and this guy is unaware or trying to rip me off by selling me the wrong one?

Its called a twin hot spot muffler. No use to you but they are available in the UK still, so they should be available here. Try Classic VW or other suppliers.

Classic in Sydney were the ones who were adamant that that's the only one available. I have a hard time communicatiing with George down there though. Looks like I'm going for a drive to Campsie. Anyone want to buy mine?
