$95 fuel filter?
My lancer is due for rego and so it got a treat to a service (since I have been in the maintaining mood lately, and also cos the battery died) and its
a lot more expensive than a kombi one. the usual oil, oil n air filters, plugs etc. But since its got 106,000 kays its due for a fuel filter,
brake/clutch fluid change(probably timing belt). $65 for a ryco one and it had to be ordered in. Had to go to mistsubishi to get coolant anyway ($35)
and they want $95 freaking dollars. For a fuel filter. To give credit they do give you a new bracket as well. But why!?!?! So it will cost me close
to $300 for parts/fluids alone. Glad I aint paying labour.

Volkswagens are SO much cheaper!! :thumb
Repco tried to sting me $60 for a 75 kombi aircleaner element. :o I bought one from Mick for $17.05 :thumb Even with COD it was still under $40.
It's amazing how much more expensive COD is! :o I had stuff sent by normal post last time and it was a lot cheaper, so I'll have to start
planning ahead more often. It's a pity Mick doesn't sell Shitsubishi parts. :P

*shudders* I dont go to repco here. They are complete .... . argh. very frustrating. I hate going to any of those type places looking for VW parts cos
the parts listings suck. And when you ask for something non specific like something for a turbo 74 kombi... expect lots of hassle. My worst trip was
asking for an EFI pump. Any one will do cos im using it on a carburetted car and most of the flow will go over the regulator. The guy behind the
counter insisted looking it up in his book. But they arent listed for a 74 kombi! No shit sherlock. Even something as simple as a 5/8 heater hose with
a bend greater than 90 degrees is a challenge. But then the volvo centre in the gong is just as bad. Told them I wanted a fuel filter that is plastic
like an everyday plastic ryco one but bigger. And they went thru every volvo filter, (some metal, some cloth that go inside the tank) before saying
well the only other one is this one yay. its plastic just like a
cheapo ryco one. thanks!
You prolly dont get much choice living out in the bush.though.

If I ever have to get anything from those places I find they don't always have Kombi listed in the book. It always seems to be listed under
commercial as 'Transporter'
I now get used to just ordering using the part numbers eg. Points, condensor, cap etc.
One place I had to eventually say 'Just give me some Holden points to get the ones I needed.

I use non-VW points at times also. The oil filter is a Falcon one I think, and the blinker cannister can also be replaced by a Falcon one, but
they're a different shape (round) which doesn't fit as nicely.

torana XU1 and some older porche 911 use the same size points but they have a stronger spring to stop the points bouncing at high revs. They are
supposed to have a larger rubbing block that wont allow the points to close up as quick, but the set I bought (bosch) just seemed to match what I took
out. I hate doing kombi points. I cant seem to get it right without taking the dizzy out.
Trouble with fuel filters for the lancer is that it has metal lines with threaded fittings and its also very short n stumpy. Dont want to bend the
lines and have it looking like its been botched up. There are 3 that the ryco catalog lists as possible replacements but all same price.

OK. next problem for lancer is the vent fan switch. Its gone from 4 speed to 2 speed. Rang up just then and you have to buy the entire heater/aircon
control panel. Which is ONLY $351. Thinking that it will stay 2 speed unless I can find something at tandy/dick smith/jaycar.
