High ratio rockers
Hi I have just got my 1600 rebuilt and once it's run in I would like to get a bit more power.
I've heard that the best bolt on preformance part is a set of ratio rockers. But I don't know which ratio would be the best.
I also have a single 44IDF webber to put on.

Well at least its out of the car. Pity you didnt just change the cam while it is out of the car.
Personally i wouldnt bother with the ratios on a stock.
1.4:1's are great on a stock cam but the $$$$$$$ just aint worth it to me - like $400 at least.
Get youself another 44 and put them on. Pull your heads while it is out and measure the deck height. Then set your compression ration at say 8.25:1
and get a 3 angle valve job.
Single IDF's seem to be a pain. I would put a Progressive on any day. If you live south of Sydney i would highly recomend you run heat risers.
Couldnt see what exhaust you were running but you need a good one.
On a stock non conter weighted crank in a city car a lightened flywheel can be fun as well

If you do decide to use ratio rockers, remember they are very hard on the valve train, and tend to produce excessive float and bounce unless at least
heavy duty springs are used. Also, run your cam in before you fit them: i.e. run the engine at about 300rpm for twenty minutes on first start up,
never letting it idle. Shut down, tune up, adjust the tappets (some say change the oil) and run the engine at varying loads and speeds for at least
300mi, adjust then change the oil. The ratio rockers will need custom length pushrods (preferably chromoly) and probably shims under the posts.
In other words, I agree with blue74, at least about the cam and carbs. High compression, like 1.4:1 rockers, are a recipe for a short engine life
and, with stock valve springs, won't give a very useful increase in power - but if you set the 44(s) up right, it will! (BTW - reliable sources
agree that a single 44 with a 2mm hole drilled in the butterfly - to allow better use of the idle/progression circuit - can be jetted up to produce
almost as much power as twins!)
If you've already blown your budget, fit a nice set of extractors (you will probably need to go up one jet size) and enjoy your new engine!

Not a bad idea, I still think you're gonna love your fresh 1600, 'specially if you fit extractors. But if you can get someone to jet your
44, or can do it yourself, put it on and you'll love it even more! If not, name a price and tell me, or put it on here in the BB&S forum.

Why is it you have too much time on your hands to troll through my past and see where i have contradicted myself.
No - one else has noticed!
Now STOP IT!
or i will give you one of mine to look after!!! :o
"1.4:1's are great on a stock cam but the $$$$$$$ just aint worth it to me -"
On top of that i said ( and still continued the same line) that the reason is $$$$.

Ok, so; after the crash, we're looking at two-year old threads...
I'm gonna argue, 'cos 1.4s on a stock cam with stock stroke and heads (maybe a little porting on a 1916) can be b*&^^%$ brilliant -
prolly better than most cams on a street engine. specially in a Kombi.
