Kadron accelerator pump

Hi,

I'm was just adjusting the accelerator pump on a used set of Kadrons and one of the pumps does not stream the fuel out very well.

One carb squirts well in a constant stream of about 0.75 ml (measured over twenty squirts) which seems to be compariable to the original carb specs. The other other stream in not constant, it splutters, and only deliveries about half the quantity of the other carb.
Any idea on cause of splutter?

I've read that there is supposed to be a check ball in brass squirt tube but I don't know how to check for this. Anyone know ?

Cheers
Pav

there are 2 check balls in each carb. if either one is missing or stuck open the acc pump won't work at all. one under the spray tube and one behind the diaphram (i think... it has been a long time since i pulled mine apart). things that i would check are that there isn't anything blocking the spray nozzle itself and that the diaphram is ok, plus the adjustment on the acc pump arm/rod.

if you have to pull the spray tube out you need to pull the top off the carb, i can't remember if the tube is threaded or just a press fit, sorry.

one one of my carbs the check ball under the acc spray tube was gooped shut so i had to blow it out. a soccer ball etc filler needle thingy with some gaffer wrapped around it to form a taper, them jammed in the hole, worked well for me. (i stuck the whole lot in a cloth bag when i did it so i wouldn't loose the ball). this method should work for blowing out most of the passages in the carb if it comes to that.

hope this is of some use to you.

I've tried pulling/unscrewing the spray tube but no joy. Tube rotates about 1/2 inch but will not come out. I don't to like to put too much force on it as I have a nasty habit of breaking things.
Any ideas on how to extract?

i understand the breaking things habbit.
from memory, mine had a small hex head where it sat into the carb body and i twiddled it about with a adjustable spanner.... i have a feeling it was a press fit though.
it was 4 years ago though and i seem to be getting more and more forgetfull as the years go by.
