FUGLY "Mystery'X' Kit Car" ~ Please help?

As the heading says, I have a delemnia in that I bought a kit car from my brother inlaw, but it was nothing like what he explained?
The body section where it mounts looks a fair bit like how I remember my old '64 Beetles floorpan looking, but something with this body just doesn't sit right with me?
After spending the best part of the last 3 weeks googling thru every variation possible of VW+KitCar+GullWing in anticipation of what this car may look like, then picking it up last Friday, I come up empty, so if some of you are up for a challenge feel free to pop over to these addys to look at a few pics I posted elsewhere because I dont have a website for hosting pictures and couldn't work out how to post them here.
It would be great to know what it is so I know where to start?
I have taken around 70 or so photos of the inside, underneath, engine bay, top, sides, front, back etc just so i can cover all angles if someone has a clue?

Cheers, Pig (oinks308)

That is one weird kit, doe sit have any markings? Why were you searching for "GullWing" is that what it is?

Man, the back of that kit... weird.. is not that bad actually, the only thing that does not do it for me are the doors. I reckon with a set of 17 or 18" wheels, bling it up. :bounce

I actually like it in a tacky, piss-take kind of way. It actually looks like what Homer Simpson would design for a sports car(for those who remember his first car design attempt).

I just bought a Eureka today so I must admit some bias towards kit cars etc.

What you should do is go the whole ricer look with neons, massive chrome wheels etc just for laughs. You'll ertainly turn some heads in that thing.

Thanx Guys well I dont know what to say lolol
I mean, HELL i really mean I do not know WHAT to say lolol
It was NOTHING like what my Brother Inlaw told me it was and If I told ya's what I paid you would have me committed pmsl
I should have know his slutty tastes should have reflected what he called a, and I quote; a "Virgin Body"... errr?
Well I can see why he would say VIRGIN cos not even a 2CV would throw a leg over it pmsl
If I didn't have such a warped mind when it comes to motor cars I wouldn't throw a leg over it either lol
Calm down guys I meant to climb into the cockpit hehe
But from what I can see, the ugly bit of glass on the front is hiding a nicely rounded nose with a small slanty mouth type Grille opening with a hole each side for what looks like jap combo park/ indicator lights with a rectangular in front of the wheel arches for Id say long rectangular indicators.
The front wheel arches sweep forward instead of dropping straight off the way the after thought glass implies?
Then the engine bay wall?, well it looks to have been moved back about 4 inches for, at a guess? extra leg room?
Then it has been lengthened around 4inches thru the rear wheel arches then another 4 inches behind the wheel arches...
The Air Box on the back louvre? door thing, well it to has been an afterthought and added and it has had some sort of wing mounted to it at some stage?
The two rectangular holes in front of the screen are a mystery as well?
The big square hole in the front looks like another after thought with pieces of aluminium shoved in for the fluted look.
I reckon a set of 15x12's with the biggest sand tyres available would look tiny under those rear wheel arches?
It has a steel dash, maybe Mazda in origin sitting in it at present and the GullWing flaps? doors lol, well they are actually 7mm/8mm thick perspect moulded to shape then have had a factory look groove cut into the plastic around where it is painted to give the impression that it has 'fitted' glass...
All round, a real puzzler?
Hey, like I loved my old '64 beetle to death and have always had a soft spot for the lil buggers, sorta like the Eureka's with the exception of the lift up top, liked the later Magnums and Countach style kits, but this has me stumped?
Someone did suggest his uncle thought it was either a Invader GT or Eagle GT or something he had seen in NZ of which he thought there were only 5 bodies made, Id go check it out but the oldholden site despite its charm is about as reliable as an old holden lol
Tis down, agaiiiinn so when Rusty breaths life into it again I will try and follow up some leads on this kiwi link.
Somehow I dont like my chances of getting this registered?
As I understand it to do so I have to prove that at least one has been registered on Australian roads, hell if I cant even find out what the hell it is what chance do I have? lol
And thanx Terry, I was thinking of ringin you to see if it was the Ferrari of Baja Bugs pmsl
But I think I will hang onto it.... I think? lol
I have a mate who owns his own business producing fibreglass body kits mainly for Commodores and recently made the moulds up for a '40 Willys Coupe and he has expressed some interest in knocking off a mould if we can get it to resemble something..... well not FUGLY! lol
I am in great doubt as to the front which reminds me of a clay lip plate in an african woman's bottom lip lol, those GullWing doors, unless I can reshape them and give them a frame of sorts? will make way for an open top look.
Have also thought about cutting out the headlight recesses in the front guards, flipping them over and seeing what it looks like as a complete guard with a 'spine' running from the screen to the front. maybe recessing a 5 3/4" headlight into it then, recessing a 4" spotlight under that then a 2" park/ indicator light under that then doing the same to the rear end.
Pissing off the airbox up the rear, making the rear wheel arches smaller and PIMPING this biatch out for some fun lolol
I just don't wanna cut it up if it has any historical type background, I think more like hysterical, but would like to be sure Im not destroying something that holds some sort of signifigance?
Even if hides an even uglier history if thats at all possible lol
But for sure, I fear a past owner had plans of a V12 with all the lengthening that I beleive has been carried out?
If not it may just be used as a plug to redo and knock a mould off, maybe dubbed FUGLYII hehehe
Who knows? the search continues as I want to know what it is before so much as putting a cutting wheel near it.
Thanx for the replies guys, FUGLY I think will remain a mystery for some time to come lol

I reckon it is a home made jobbie by someone with skill but no taste.

I think it is a hacked up Ferrari Dino replica, certainly the curves on the front are Dino to be sure.

I'd take the gull wing doors off of it, turn it into a targa top, bugger off the louvred rear tray and put one with a window in it. I reackon its definetely salvaeable, but I do hope you didnt pay much for it !!!!!!

Yeah.... Hmm? I am still scratchin my head on this one?
Yes a lil Ferrari Dino, yes a lil Lotus Europa, Yes very similar to the Samba, no not really at all like all of the above is it? lol
It has something, in a sort of QLD Cane Toad sort of way, beautifully ugly, if one could perhaps use those two words in the same sentence pmsl
It looks to be 'loosely' based on them all but none?
I think Doug is the closest with "I reckon it is a home made jobbie by someone with skill but no taste" lol
Climbing underneath it tells me it is from a mould, just what mould?
If it is related to the Samba then I would rather hunt up a history on it and disregard the uglyness of the whole situation and work from there, always had an inkling for an old Buckley or some oddball '50's/'60's style Racer, hmmmm?
Might keep looking before cracking out the cutting wheel just yet?
It also has a fibreglass diamond pattern '60's style vinyl type of finish in the cabin where it hasn't been modded, so whoever took the moulds took them from a car that had a vinyl padded interior definately in a '60's style taste like that used in old Rods and Customs from the era...
*thinking thinking thinking*.......
I wonder if I started off hunting around a few Racing clubs like aaahhhhh? yeah?
Maybe they would feel insulted tho if a *gasp* VW based car came a knocking amongst all that early hand formed'n english wheel rolled alloy and rivets'n leather brigade? hehe
Samba? I think I may try and chase up the link to see if I can email someone and forward on some pictures?
Thanx baybuscamperkid, ya might be onto something here? loosely? lol

Cheers Guys, whether we may or may not have sorted out what it is yet, the search is still on I fear lol, Pig (oinks308)

MYSTERY SOLVERED WOOHOOO!!! lolol

Ok guys I have solvered da problemo at hand!
Thanx to "TheSamba" I have at last worked out what it is so there is some promise in what is essentially still a FUGLY VeeDubbaya alternative hehe
Many thanx to the dude who posted the VW GT picture from the site, man there are some interesting Euro cars based the the mighty Dubbaya!
ok now lets see if I can get a grip on this image thing.. hmmm?

http://thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/181510.jpg

http://thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/181512.jpg

http://mclellansautomotive.com/photos/B26524.jpg

http://mclellansautomotive.com/photos/B26522.jpg

SO.... there ya have it guys, another one ya can now add to the list and rest knowing the "FUGLY Mystery 'X' Mobile" has been solvered hehe
Ok now there doesn't seem to be any real great worth to these from what I gather?
Sooooo that means it's open slather woohoo!! hehehe
I remember a friend many many years ago on the Sunshine Coast who owned Browns Autobahn, a Father/ Son team dealing in VW's working from their shed doing all sorts of mechanical repairs.
I did Ian's Type3 Wagon up from the ground up and ended up spraying it in the original pale Green with a mist coat of micro Silver metallic but thats another story hehe
When I owned my '64 Cal Custom Beetle Ian owned a Baja Bug and fitted up Kombi Transaxle and reduction gears on the back and Kombi suspension on the front.
The front and rear rims from memory were something like 15x6 and 15x10 and ran the snow/mud offroad type tread tyres and he wanted to turn it back to an original style Beetle, but one on steroids so removed the Baja kit.
I widened an original set of Front Guards 3.5inches and an original set of Rear Guards 3inches, he then made up a new set of runing boards and covered them to look original...
He then got it painted in a late '70's Mazda 323 colour which was like an ultra violet candy Green in the sunlight, looked awesome!
Man that sucker could go to!
I think he ended up with 3 shockies on each back corner to try and stop it launching the bum up in the air hehe
Looked like an Elephant Beetle stickin it's bum into the air hissin at ya ready to launch and attack on each gear change lolol
But long story short, is it illegal nowadays to fit the Kombi suspension under a Beetle floorpan?
I just reckon the Invader body is going to need some serious sort of track under it and instead of running monster dished rims I reckon increasing the track would be a better alternative, especially if I go ahead with it as those rear guards either need cutting down in length or chocked full of tyre, so I reckon I'd be looking at something like 15x10's with either a 295x50 or 265x50/60 type tyre on the rear and a 205/215x60x15 tyre on the front.
I remember blowin around 5 Transaxles in my Dub so I figure a Kombi box setup should hold the goods with a tuff lil Typre3 donk with Twin Port heads etc
Gotta start somewhere?
I also like the look of the front guard filled with the headlight cover, so I think I would still be inclined to cut the recesses out then flip them upside down, switch sides and have a full guard ionstead of the recess.
Then recess a 5 3/4" hi/lo Headlight in each side, with a 4" spottie recessed below that with a 2" indicator under that and a 1" park light under that, keep all lighting round and recessed, not scalloped like it is now, I like headlights when theyre fitted like how I would recess an ariel.
Might leave the GullWing Doors just for rainy days me thinks?
But leave them off on the rest of our "great one day even better the next" weather we have up here (I forecast rain everyday knowing my luck pmsl)
Then cut out the rear cover so its like a Aunger louvre and I can see out and thru it through the small window in the rear of the cabin.
From what I can gather the windscreen maybe from a Karmen Ghia?
What do you guys reckon?
Well thats the mystery solved and a long road ahead of me now.
So thanx to you fella's who gave it a shot for me, I have to admit it was challenging just to get this far lol

Cheers, Pig (oinks308)

At least you know now that it's not a back yard jobbie, and that someone actually "styled" it. Great that you've got a link there now to work back on.
