azz, rat look is rough, rusty and original on the outside , but fitted with big motor , and good mechanicals on the inside. Topped off with a nice set of wheels.
Best ones still have faded signwriting from past days as a work van.

That's the 'Mercury' bus - quite famous
in the US.

I like the 'rat' look (orig body often
*very* rusty, logo preferred, phat motor,
mags, lowered) and my barney will be a
bit like this since I'm struggling for funds
to do it 'properly' first up.

Probelm with Oz is that you'd never get
away with visible rust hanging out
everywhere - never get a legit
roadworthy and if you could fudge it
you'd get nothin but grief on the
road....Many US states and European
countries require a safety inspection
which is simply lights brakes etc - body
condition isn't covered at all...

Once you fix the rust as required here
you must paint (those bits anyway) and
the look is gone.....

I'm thinking about a primer look or brown
zinc chromate base and paint and then
rubbing back to get a flattish paint job
rubbed through to the primer in a few
spots (ie the pseudo orig paint ratitsh
look)..

Ratlook is cool,And that bus rocks,Its a pitty there isnt many ratlook dubs in oz.You dont need rust to get away with the ratlook its all about being creative as Rob mentioned you can also use primer.Another way to acheive this is keep the original paint work repair dents etc and prime panels etc and leave it primed slam it polish up the chrome some mad wheels and add a bit of accessories and there you have it just be creative.Remember the mechanics have to be up to scratch too.

But if the rust is not eating through the body, just superficial? A clear flat coat of something (so technical :D)?

I'll second that , do up a "Rat " and show it.
That would make for variety.
Would allow another out for creativity.

Do most people pass u on rego if its only surface rust?

Primer patches are cool, along with lots of dents :)

Rikkies bus is one MAAAAD mother f#%*in bad ass bus .
Was at the Ace cafe meet in the uk with Rikki at the end when all were leaving he made his bus do a wheel stand past the entire cafe (big long building)
A 1953 bus ,12am, winter in uk, safari windows open, no seat belts,2.6 motor and no warning of launching..... scary!....but insane fun!
Check out Rikkies site i think its www monsterbus.com.
cheers
Adam

Good to see you around again Cam!

Anyways ive been thinking about this a bit, and since my 72bug is several different colours, as well as scratched and dented, i think im going to sand it back and sit it in primer. Polish up another set of mags i have handy and fit them. Eventually slam it down, and combined with the 1916cc in it, i think itll look good.

i recomend checking out http://www.rat-look.de
there are some v.cool cars there.
one of my fave's is the linde bus in his fave section. having seen this car in the flesh all i can say is that it is totally crazy.
the only thing crazier was the guy that built/used to own it.

look at how the exhaust is sitting and you get the idea how low this thing is. the guy who owned it drove it over 500 km each way to get there.
