very fast black splittie

the other day down at the entrance in nsw I saw a very hot black splittie. I was driving my family camry and could not get close to it , the guy driving it was giving it some and boy did it go. I t had a sticker on the rear screen BUGS AND BUSES .
Who is this business? how do they make old buses go so fast an handle so well?

people are alwys stunned by the go in the ol' bus. but i get even more looks when i stop. i think a lot of people dont expect the bus to pull up too well and they get carried away with lookin at her and they get too close. scares the crap out of me sometimes. at least i know my bus is all STEEL....

have always been a bit of speed nut. but if you get my attention i wiil stop and chat.
used to work in camperdown thats why i'm seen down there every now and then. but now i live on the central coast, so anyone up this way will catch a glimpse regularly.
gotta thank mike (CBB) for his input in the running as i'm not a softy when it comes to givin the bus some stick, and it has not missed a beat.:thumb:cool::thumb

actually. would some one know what i can do about the speedo. i have a rare trip meter in the ol' bus, so i havn't touched it. i want to keep it complete and original but it also restricts me from goin any quicker as i dont want to break the needle on the stop at the '0' position. and although the woman likes that it puts a limit in place, i really would like to alter it so that i can get along a bit more. i think it is because of the 195/50/15 doughnuts. can it be recalibrated easily or do i just go for slightly larger rear rims (maybe 16";). would like to get this sorted. :bounce

I have a similar problem, I run 195 50 R 15's on the rear and 195 45 ZR 15's on the front. I was thinking of getting a Autometer speedo to replace the original.

Well what motor?

its a neat 'lil' motor matched to the real early 1200 box. apparently the gearing is supposed to be good, as the early bus had to work with a 1200 motor and still pull a load. so when you took the reduction hubs out, the ratios work well. im sure there are quicker buses, but im happy. besides i have to remember... "no seatbelts". it does add a certain factor....

i dont want to replace the speedo because of the trip meter so i need an alternative.

I used to drive the oval without belts but used to get so nervous when the speed got up that had to put belts in.
Now all I stress over is the solid steel steering shaft I still havent changed yet.

Sounds like great ride - hope I see it around

this is one of the reasons why i've always got the safari open. my aim in some sort of mystical way, is not to break my face on the window and avoid the sudden death impact by doing a neat "jumpin' the border to iran" death roll out of the bus, followed by a superman fly and then landing with a minor gravel rash on my tougher than ever 'bad bug' t-shirt.
i've pictured the senario. i have a plan. foolish, maybe. but it is fun.
i remember once not having helmets when riding my pushie.
life is there to be enjoyed, and sometimes risks are there to be taken.
