Umm, if you modded that chassis design a little you could probably get it regoed in NSW providing the engine wasn't too big.
BTW, can't wait until Jak Jones sees this thread.

Hi
I think once the chassis is changed to this extent it would be an individually constructed vehicle. That’s a whole new can of worms that I know
nothing about. Jack Jones is probably busy tightening his tent ropes at the moment, just wait until the wind drops a bit.

As long as you kept the centre tunnel, it would be like a full rear end on a drag car. My engineer said it was important that the pan resemble the
original one recognizably if you wanted to register things as rebodied beetles. I'm guessing it'd be the same for this. Then again with all the new
changes you might be right.

HRmatt would know about that. But apparently, there are some peculiar laws relating to the age of the original car that make it difficult for dubs to
be registered as rods. That, and I suspect some rodders are a bit non-VW.

It would be an ICV even if on SR plates.
Most rodders aren't non-vw, they tend to be non-vw people who tell them why they should accept them.
Under the rules if the car can gain enough points to be an ASRF classified car (Mild Custom or Wild Custom) you should be able to get SR rego. If the
TAC rep will accept it and in the end it's down to them and do they want to piss off clubs?
ASRF classes:
Hot-rod - Pre '48.
Classic Custom - American Origin, pre '71, separate removable chassis and body fastened by standard automotive fasteners.
Mild Custom - Pre '71 with (I think 200 points)
Wild Custom - Pre '71 with (I think minimum 400 points)
The points system is antiquated and gives more points to frenching of headlights then to relocation/redesign of driveline... Sorta done to keep it to
cars for which it was developed - ie American.
The change in engine position, the redesign of the chassis and such would almost certainly make it an ICV. High speed brake and cornering tests. Side
intrusion bars, current emmissions rules crumple zones.
If you have the $, time and good engineering then why not?nn[ Edited on 11-7-2005 by HotRodMatt ]

Makes sense, I don't like V8 meatheads who try to tell me why I should love V8s so much.
Have you got a link to the point system thingo?
Who was it set-up by? National or state rego people?

Here's the thing. You can't get the rule book unless you are an ASRF member.
I have a friend that gives me the bits I need from time to time.
As it is ASRF affiliated clubs (or being a lone wolf ASRF member) that control the SR scheme it's a case of you have to get acceptance first before
you even consider SR rego.

without being nasty, that's a bit exclusive isn't it. lets say someone builds awesome cars but has the personality of limp carboard and the social
skills of a nailgun, they'd really be behind the eightball.

I have a set of plans for that chassis. My plan is to mount my 2.0 Suby twin turbo in it with the 56 Oval body. Have a friend who is helping me with
the Oval who is willing to help build the chassis. He is a retired machinist and likes to try unusal builds. He just finished a 1970 VW fastback
with a 2.2 Suby and a bus trans. He also has a Vanagon with a 2.2 Suby in it. We welded the roof back on the Oval last Saturday and will work on the
wiring harness next. We hope to have the Suby engine mid mount and still have enough room for a rear seat. Still lots of measureing to do.

| Hi Ernie, are you going to design a full all half chassis and are you using CAD (computer)for designing?..... I found it was alot

I am in the United States. I have the blueprints from Rorty. I think it is a nice chassis design. I am sure I would have to do some redesign on the
rear for the Suby engine. I don't have a cad program, but the guy who is going to help me is pretty good at design work. He has built some pretty
wild cars in the past. He has a 1952 Jeep pickup with a Chevy V6 and auto trans. It has a Mustang front suspension and airbags on the rear. The
cab has been extended 14". He has built two Vanagons with Suby 2.2 engines. A nice friend to have. He laughs at some of my ideas.

I have the Suby already in the Oval. Just want a better chassis. This engine is rated at 300 HP. I think that will be enough for me.

Hmmm reminds me of a certain T3 thing in baby shit mustard brown colour that used to race at Oran Park mebbe 25 years ago.
Never looked inside but it was powered with (from memory) a 5 Lt Holden V8 boat anchor thing. I cannot remember whether it was mid-mounted tho.
I do remember it went like stink......in a straight line!
Corners were a little different LOL.
