Anyone use standox??
I heard they were one of the companies that did the original VW codes and they still do Sealing wax red. Havent used it before myself and was hoping
someone could lead me through the products from metal to topcoat. Any quirks, comments about this stuff? Its that or Glasurit but Id prefer to lose
an arm instead of both my arms and legs to the paint job ($$$$).

My oppinion from experience is PPG is the best, House of colour the worst. Had problems with clear with Glasurit, changing colour. Standox is ok. You
genrally get what you pay for.

All of the main brands will be able to do products that are of a good standard, which one you use comes down to what your prefer.. i personal think
ppg is at the lower end of the spectrum with glasurit being towards the top.. i have used most paint systems over the years and if your willing to
spend glasurit is one of the best. cheaper but almost as good are spies hecker,sikkins ( i currenty work in a shop with spies and i cant fault it
great stuff) even lesonal is worth a look..
As for the comment on "house of kolor" there range is only aimed at full custom paint work and u will be hard pushed to get better candy etc... not
a fan of there clears but thats not saying they aint good,bloody expensive stuff tho... have a look in the fixed topics on the main paint/body
page and there is detailed step by step guides on how to.....

Best bet is to go to your local paint supply dhop and have a chat with them. PPG, Standox, Spies Hecker, Sikkens. All good. Glasurit very good

House of colour is the worst paint to use......... Nice colour range, just shit paint. Any house of colour paint colour can be duplicated with other
brands.

as i said decked, its a matter of opinion.. i have been useing house of kolor for many years and have always had great results.. i dont know the
circumstances you have used them in so cant comment but your the first i have ever heard that thinks that way..... when it comes down to it its all
personal choice... like whats better iwata or sata, one painter will say one thing another will say different... as long as each is happy with what
they use and the end result is the same who cares?

Ive used standox 2k and PPG Cobra. Both seemed pretty high quality to me - I think it'd be fair to say that the quality of the finish would probably
be more attributed to the prep work and how its applied rather than the paint system you use.
I have looked myself for a lot of original VW colours in the PPG range, and most of them are in Acrylic or not in Cobra anyway. So if you decide on a
certain paint system and/or you want to do 2k, just get it colour matched.

Hi Z,
Get the best etch primer you can(epoxy) as a base. This will protect the precious metal thats under the paint. As for the color what you will be
using are base colors so you should find that most higher market paints are equal: DeBeer, PPG, Standox, Glasurit. Leave HOK for kandy's and
pearls....
Glasurit will guarantee your paint for life if used as a complete system and by a qualified painter. That in itself speaks volumes on the quality

Thanks All, Im pretty much stuck with Glasurit or Standox cos theyre the only ones who produced the OG formula sealing wax red. Any one can match
this paint at shop but it has a very poor fade life, ie most other makes dont look anything like it after a year or two's life. Im not to worried
about either paint cos their reputuations are A1, I was only really concerned with how they shoot for the first time user. Ive been ok with PPG and
Sikkens before but never either of these two. No one really has anything bad to say about the undercoats and basecoats so its pretty much down to how
much I want to spend.

All paint companies have reformulated their paints that contained high lead content. This was a requirement starting in the mid 80's and pretty much
stopping all lead in the paint by the end of the 90's
Red, Yellow an White tinters used to contain as much as 30% lead oxide. It is the lead oxide that gives those coulours their 'balls' that is
coverage and resistance to fading. This is why so many mid 80's to mid 90's red cars faded within a year or two.. The paint companies could not come
up with alternatives quicker than the lead content was dropping.
Not such a problem now with the major companies. Also PPG makes pigments for a lot of other paint companies. 2/3 of all new OEM paint finishes contain
PPG pigments.
