Oran Park Supersprint 21 August
Come and see Jaks WRX powered vw hosing off Porsches down the long straight of the Oran Park Grand Prix circuit.
Youl'll also see a vw powered Oval trying like hell to keep up with it.
And you may also see another couple of beetles with some fresh and innovative modifications.
Come and join us on Sunday 21st August.

The cost is around $200. I haven't seen the entry on the Porsche Club website yet. You may also need to get a Porsche Club Membership.
Practice normally starts at 10 and timed laps start at 12. However you need to be there at 8 for scruitineering.
You'll get more track time in the first warm-up session than on an entire hillclimb event weekend. The atmostphere is a bit more relaxed but they
don't like you driving around the track while sipping a capuccino.
Hope to see you there. CYA CT

Can somebody help me with rear brakes?
My T3 drums are oval. I need some round ones that I can drill for Porsche pattern.
The problem is that the drums knock the wheel cylinders back in leaving me with bugger all brake pedal before corners. This is not a receipt for clean
shorts.
Not only that, you end up spilling hot coffee in your lap.

Errrr
Alex, you were one of the other guys. Why aren't you driving? Is that fluffy fluro headlining not going to pass scrutineering?
I understand you want to dyno the car first and get some miles on it before you race it next. That's a good idea. I've been meaning to dyno my car.
I think my car is too rich on the road but it's right on the track.
If you come to the track and Deiter doesn't then the Ovals will out number the superbugs for a change.

It's just Jak and I.
I've got some huge Type 1 rear drums from Paul so hopefully I'll have a brake pedal, well, for the first few laps anyway.
If I get time on Saturday I'll get the soldering iron out and I'll see if the words "MSD" and "Monster" tacho make me go any faster.
I can't wait, Sunday should be heaps of fun.

Yep, the stickers would've been a better bet. They're easier to install.
I got the brakes on and fixed one or two other niggles, but the MSD and autometer didn't make it. I spent a few hours helping my father with a broken
throttle linkage in his Lancia Fulvia Zagato.

Well a mixed day.
It was an excellent day that went a bit pear-shaped. The practice sessions were fun. Jak was in front of me a the esses and had a huge slide but
caught it. I also had a slide there a lap or two later. There was understeer in some corners, oversteer in some and four wheel drifts in some. Both
our cars are well balanced which is pleasing to say. It's been quite a struggle to get the evils out of my car. Now it's confidence inspiring.
Oran Park GP is such a fun track it will be sad to see it turned into housing in a few years. I might go and live out there as a mark of respect. But
then again maybe not. It's such a long way away. It seemed even longer because both Jak and I had to nurse our cars home. I'm too scared to open my
engine lid to see the result.
I won't tell you what happened, I'll leave the suspense to the next issue of VW Mag Australia. Jak will probably have a story in there.
What I can tell you is that I got into the 1:29s which was good because I was hoping to below 1:30. I think 1:28 would have been possible with a few
more runs and Jak got into the 1:27s which is pretty respectable.
The highlight of the day was driving under the Yokohama bridge, hot on Jaks tail while we both passed a Porsche 996 Tubo. I better not steal Jak's
story.
I'll end with my sentiment above... Bloody old cars (And cheap American Parts). CYA CT

On reflection I'm disappointed with the times. I gave it a good wriggle on the last timed lap but stuffed up. I was so impressed with my late braking
effort into the last corner that I forgot to change into 3rd. The car spluttered and gurgled around the bend and it was such a lame run on to the
straight with the engine totally off song until about 10 meters from the flag. The result was a 1:30. Hmmm there is definately more potential. I need
to go 3 seconds quicker before the turn that track into a driveway. We might be visiting Oran Park GP circuit a few times next year.
I'll attach a picture or two from the weekend in the next post.
