Change Motor?
Hi All,
Is there a motor that I could put into a '75 Kombi 1.6ltr 4 speed that is not an original and that will perform better then the current original?
I'm thinking of buying such a Kombi with a blown motor and wondering what the options and possible costs will be? Any help would be much
appreciated.
Cheers. |

Um just so you know the original motor for a '75 was a 2litre TypeIV motor. Some early '75s may have had 1800's in them (ie 1.8litre). And at
some point during (?) or before '75 they went Fuel Injection. The 1600's a beetle motor (ie, type I). Used in busses up to about '71 I think.
The TypeIV option should be an easy way to go - it's what it should have after all - and will surely be more drivable than the 1600 (not that I've
had that experience just yet - soon!). 1600's gotta be cheaper though.
Perhaps fill in the location in your profile, that might help us with suggestions.
Good luck dude! Aurel. (I've got a '74 bay and a splitty on the way).

Depends on how much you want to spend. The cheapest option is to put in a 2nd hand 2l engine (the largest of the stock kombi engines). Other than
that, how big is your wallet!:P
